Nothing on the radar but definately a rumble of thunder was heard in Sunshine.

Might have been Santa's sleigh breaking the sound barrier, but I think it was thunder.

Edit: And a second rumble.

I have just seen a couple of crawlers, the shy was clear about 30 minutes ago, suddenly a roll of thunder. Another crawler has just flashed past.

Those cells are just missing me to the south. But great light show and continous thunder.
Frequent CC lightning with quite a few strobing CG's as well, lightning every one or two seconds.
No rain though but I sure there is plenty of rain just to my south.
Good surprise.

Big rumble just now - something is brewing. My aunt rang me and mentioned lots of sheet lightning in Fitzroy about 20 mins ago but I put that down to the brandy custard I'd served earlier :D Can see lots of flashes to the west now over the city. Hmmm, Santa may be in for a spot of bother shortly...

More booms just now...

Just been sitting outside my hotel on the beach here at The Island, beer in hand, enjoying a nice little light show. Great way to end the day!

Finally managed to snag some decent lightning shots too...

Spent a good half hour watching it roll in, so will go through the rest when I get home to see what else I caught. Good times :D

Tempted to go back out and see if catch anymore as it drifts east...

dont you hate it when you want to go out and look at the lightning and your neighbours on all sides have their floodlights on, or sensor lights and you cant see a thing!!! GRR

I have seen the most amazing crawlers, that are lighting up the sky and are not showing up on the radar. The thunder is bomb like. The lightning is like the flash when a light bulb goes "pop".

A beautiful sound and light show going on around Echuca ATM, some of the lightning looks like it is a kajillion volts in the distance.

Have a great Christmas and New Years everyone, and stay safe.

Plenty of lightning about now, mostly from the cell away to the southeast but this little one that has popped up just to the north of here is sparking a few with the odd rumble thrown in. Looks to be too high to be worthy of camera shots - and at any rate, there are a couple of stockings that need to be filled from a gent dressed in red :D

So... do I get back downstairs and shut the windows or not...

P.S. Bel, that brandy custard sounds a bit potent! Swing some my way, yeah? :P Gent dressed in red has left our place so should be with you any minute.

AWF SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ADVICE
Please use official warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology for professional services.

Thunderstorm activity is continuing to affect Victoria tonight. There are several thunderstorms currently being the focus; one near Echuca, one near Wangaratta, and another one southeast of Frankston. A small cell has also developed near Melbourne City a short time ago, but does appear to be weak, although has had reports of lightning. Further developing convection thanks to nocturnal cooling in the states southwest is causing isolated thunderstorms.

No severe activity is currently occurring.

Lightning frequency is very high this evening with thunderstorm activity across the state, and flash flooding will be the main feature for any stronger thunderstorm that develops. Large hail and damaging winds are possible also, but to a lesser extent.

The thunderstorm chart for tomorrow's expectations will be issued within the next 15 minutes, at the following link, http://www.theaustralianweatherforum.co ... ecast.html, stay tuned.

Advices will be issued intermittently tonight.

For a small cell it's certainly throwing out lots of bolts as it approaches us! That cell down Wonthaggi way has turned black and seems to be a right mover.

I went driving all over the place this afternoon and all I had to do was wait.

Yet again, I think this is the 7-8th storm to hit after sunset in the last couple of months. :P

That was just epically EPIC. It looked like a mothership. I saw stars, the leading edge of the mothership, 50 minute flangfest, then the trailing edge of the mothership. It was a crawlers heaven, the thunder sounded like an F18 was flying overhead.
