VIC Flood Watch: Greater Melbourne Catchments

Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra, Dandenong And Bunyip)

A high pressure system is located over New Zealand, while a low pressure trough over eastern Victoria will drift westwards and weaken today. A cold front will enter western Victoria on Wednesday morning and move across the State during the day. On Thursday a high pressure system will develop south of the Bight and drift eastwards towards Tasmania on Friday.
Rainfall totals of up to 45 mm have been recorded in the 24 hr period to 9AM Tuesday in the Greater Melbourne catchments.
Rainfall totals of 10 to 20 mm have been forecast for the remainder of Tuesday and a further 20 to 30 mm is possible during Wednesday in the Yarra, Dandenong and Bunyip catchments.
Some stream rises have been observed in the Greater Melbourne catchments and with the forecast rainfall flooding may develop in the Yarra, Dandenong and Bunyip catchments from Wednesday.
The Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with Melbourne Water are monitoring the situation.

Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
