Husband's taken forever to get home from Burwood, lots of breakdowns and accidents, roads flooded, Ferntree Gully Rd and Stud Rd intersection apparently covered in water as is most of Burwood Hwy/Stud Rd.

One of the dogs decided going outside to do their business in this weather was craaaaaazy, so have just finished cleaning it up inside :x :| Rain's stopped here now.

35mm so far, we usually nail another 15mm overnight in these south west cold moist systems due to our geography.

Sounds like you may be building an ark Geoff :P

Oh Lily, what a lazy dog, nothing worse than having to clean up after them. Wow flooding at that intersection. The rain has been consistent that's for sure

The snow would have been lovely SCI

Been caning for a lot of areas with flooding about, event total 63mm with 42.5mm since 9am so a very good fall, with probably another 20-30 to come overnight.

Just noticed the low is started to move NNW ever so slightly and bring the edge of the rain band near King Island just a tad closer. Whilst it wont reach us it will cause a squeeze of convergence so heavy showers will erupt again from now till some time in the morning when it slowly heads East.

ILS the dumpers are caused by the warm bay, 20 degrees it was compared with freezing air temps, perfect set up for this side of town.

Catchments also getting a great drop. Plenty of 50mm falls through Southern Areas so far with more to come, W and S Gippsland could easily get another 50-75mm during the morning if the low continues to edge North ever so slightly. In fact that could be conservative.

Just to support AV's post, you can see right now in the current sequence of frames on the radar the showers beef up off the bay and train over the eastern suburbs.

Just 6mm here today and overnight. Almost 30mm for the past few days.

Autumn is about the only time of year that Melbourne CBD is wetter on average than here. It all has to do with the combination of the warm bay (still warm from summer and early Autumn warmth as well) and cold air that starts to come in around this time of year to herald the colder months, along with the predominant SW component behind lows and fronts. As other have mentioned, this helps set up localised heavy rain in eastern Melbourne, and often western and central Melbourne as well if there is a S to SSE airflow. Most of this rain usually stays south towards the coast.

In winter when the bay becomes cold we tend to see it drier south of the divide and in Melbourne suburbs and wetter on and north of the divide as most of the moisture comes in the form of NW cloud bands and from the Indian Ocean generally. It's all part and parcel of our four season climate and complex variability here in VIC.

Been a pretty chilly day today. And it's still raining! We have this water feature that keeps evaporating from the recent Indian Summer and today with all that rain, it's filled up to the top again! If only I had a gauge, I would be able to tell how much has fallen here.

Anyway I just posted up some photos from Sunday, so if you like clouds, here's some awesome photos that I took http://theaustralianweatherforum.com/fo ... 120#p71039" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

More rain about to come in once more for us here in the eastern suburbs. It tends to have shifted a Little more north westerly now. You can see it in the frames. By the looks of it there is LOTS more coming. 42mm so far from 9am with steady heavy rain.

Going to get pounded again this morning. Bands moving very slowly west to east and stream showers will ramp up over next few hours. Going to be more flash flooding. Some places will likely crack 100mm in line with BOM forecast - BOM nailed this event

Just tipped out 38mm for the past 24hrs, which includes 25mm overnight since 7pm.

I suspect we do better in more SSW flows, compared to the more SW flows we were seeing yesterday?

Interesting contrast to the Viewbank AWS which is showing 11mm for the (almost) 24hrs.

Fininshed up with 50mm, best result for months. None of the programs were even close.
