Reporting from parents it has been bucketing down and thunder in Gisborne. Central areas are getting a good show

Wish I could see the development, it's all grey skies here at the moment, there's a slightly darker grey to my west, but that's all I can see. :grumpy:

All over for now, birds are out nice a calm, distant rumbles and the sun is out!...still dark to my NW so who knows what will pop up later on. Should have taken some photos but was just watching the thing rotate around absolutley awesome.

Thunder getting more frequent and longer here - looks kind of a bit yellow outside, very strange.

hmmm, it's still very much a 50/50 chance of it reaching here, hope your right Andrew. Seems to be breaking down once it hits Melton. But anything we do get will be a bonus considering the impressive show we witnessed last night. :D

DJ what do you make of the mammatus? Seems to have some amazing structure and descending a long way out of the anvil...and the sun coming out now makes it look like its raining out of the anvil..

I think we're about to get hammered! Incredibly loud thunder and lots of lighting with spots of rain just starting.

24mm in the gauge after I emptied out 5mm from the first storm so 29mm all up. Now up to 51.8mm in total (since last night). Only 4mm off the monthly average and it's only day 1. Brief lull now as the area of storms has moved away. It's absolutely dark as guts here, more development to the NW looks impressive.
