So the big question is - will my little bloke get to play cricket tomorrow morning? Given the ground was too wet last week, and both EC and GFS are indicating around 10ish mm in the next 24 hours for our area, I'm thinking possibly not :( This weather is really interesting and great for us weather freaks, but not so great for sports grounds :P

Already showers and local thunderstorms over the southwest of the state at the moment. These will extend eastwards over central parts this afternoon and the east tonight. Quite mild with fresh and gusty northwesterly winds here.

Here is my chart for today. ;)

Australian Weather Forum
Thunderstorm Forecast - Day 1 (Friday)
Issued 11:25 AM EDT 17/12/2010

A cold front is near western Victoria, and will move through these parts during this morning, then central regions during the early to mid afternoon and finally the east of the state later today. Upper dynamics are not very favourable for thunderstorm formation today, however the atmospheric environment with and ahead of the cold front in regards to instability is marginal. Therefore, isolated thunderstorms are possible over southern districts today. Shower activity is already evident over the southwest this morning, and these could become lightning active.

It also seems the Laverton radar is not working this morning. The BoM FWB mentioned that it stopped overnight.

Really heavy showers passing through here currently. Another band to come by the looks of things, and then some brief respite.

I hope you're not subjecting him to the Lysterfield CC culture.

Well, been pretty flat out at work didnt even notice the rain coming until it went very dark, and started to bucket down.
Been raining relatively heavily for about 5 minutes now.

Will clear again now with maybe another shower in an hour.

Am I the only one seeing this?!?! :D

There is a nice guster moving across the bay at the moment. Was a nice discreet cell with ragged base that moved over Avalon to the bay, had some nice backbuilding until the initial updraft strengthened again with some consolidation and lowering to its base before forming a nice photogenic guster 5 mins ago. Would look very nice down Stkilda way I would think. No lightning but a red core.

Hamlan. Was expecting to see something like a guster but have had an internet outage for about 90mins thanks to my ISP so was unable to confirm it on the radar! Couldn't get a good view of any action from the Storm Free Zone that is Camberwell East. :(

Yeah from what I was seeing from the CBD it gusted out with a nice shelf as it approached the eastern side of the bay. The main cell has reintensified upon landfall and is heading toward Cranbourne. No visible lightning at any stage from here but not surprised to hear of rumbles.

Edit - and lightning on WZ from that cell now.

Was driving home and saw some nice CG and CC. Looked wicked and the roads were flooded at home.

That was a lovely unstable guster/cell viewing from the North side at home, there was some rotating updrafts in areas and saw one nice double CG, the rest of the lightning I could see was embedded in rain. I got some pics from the backyard, checking them now.
