Thats incredible Tony :snowflake: :snowman: :snowman2: Looks like most of Europe is in the grip of it :xmas: :northpole: some extradionary temps there I guess some people won't be to happy this happening just before Xmas :santa: especially those who had to travel

the thing is all the :snowflake: :snowflake: :snowflake: will melt with warm Atlantic air moving in very quickly turning alot of :snowman: :snowman: into :rainfall: :rainfall: :rainfall:

Many northern cities below -10 again in Italy, Turin and Bologna the most noteworthy at -13. But this could be the last of it for Northern Italy :northpole:

Yesterday was the last of the extreme cold with more seasonal temps for today

North West:
Unstable weather with rain developing during the afternoon and becoming heavier by night. Snow over the Alps still and possibly still in western Piedmont. Temperatures warmer than previous days. Moderate southerly winds with slightly choppy seas.

Aosta: -3to3 mostly cloudy
Turin: -3to3 mostly cloudy
Milan: -1to4 cloudy
Genoa: 7-9 rain

North East:
Showers or snow showers clearing during the day. Snow still falling however above 600m early. Temperatures warmer than previous days. Light southerly winds with slight to choppy seas.

Trento: -3to5 snow showers
Venice: 0-3 showers
Trieste: 5-11 showers
Bologna: 0-6 cloudy

Central Italy:
Showers along the Adriatic, mostly cloudy elsewhere with rain developing in Tuscany and lazio by night. Temperatures rising, warmer than previous days. Moderate to strong southerly winds with rough seas.

Florence: 3-12 showers
Perugia: 3-13 showers
Ancona: 2-11 mostly cloudy
L'Aquila: 0-10 showers
Rome: 7-15 rain
Campobasso: 4-12 showers

Southern Italy and Islands:
Showers, mostly in Calabria and Sicily. Cloudy everywhere else with possible showers. Temperatures becoming mild. Moderate to strong southerly winds, with rough seas.

Naples: 10-17 rain
Potenza: 6-12 cloudy
Bari: 6-17 cloudy
Catanzaro: 6-16 mostly cloudy

seems that Genoa has been hit by a major ice storm. And there is considerable damage.

And I hope this works but here are some photos in a gallery from the Italian Newspaper Corriere della Sera.

It is in Italian, but I am sure the photos speak for themselves.

Forecast for today Wednesday 23rd December 2009

North West:
Skies clearing during the day with some showers about in Liguria and some snow showers in the higher Alps and western parts of Valle d'Aosta. Clouds will increase again during the day, with heavier rain in western parts by night. At night snow will fall down to 600m and about Cuneo. Cool to mild temps during the day, with windy conditions in the south and choppy seas.

Aosta: -1to2 mostly cloudy
Turin: -1to6 partly sunny
Milan: 0-7 partly cloudy
Genoa: 2-13 cloudy

North East:
Cloudy conditions with showers still in northern Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Snow in the higher Alps. Clouds clearing to sunnier conditions, especially in the south. By night clouds will develop in the NW with snow showers above 900m Warmer temperatures during the day. Moderate south westerly winds in the south, light elsewhere and slightly choppy in the northern Adriatic.

Trento: 0-2 mostly cloudy
Venice: 3-9 cloudy
Trieste: 8-15 showers
Bologna: 0- partly cloudy

Central Italy:
Isolated showers inland and along the Tyrrhenian coasts in the morning. Sunny spells along the Adriatic extending into all other areas. By afternoon, clouds developing in northern Tuscany with showers and some rain there by night. Temperatures rising to above average winter temperatures. Moderate to strong winds making the Adriatic choppy and the Tyrrhenian sea rough.

Florence: 6-14 partly cloudy
Perugia: 13-16 partly cloudy
Ancona: 4-7 mostly sunny
L'Aquila: 10-12 partly cloudy
Rome: 13-17 mostly sunny
Campobasso: 10-13 showers

Southern Italy and Islands:
Clouds clearing to the Ionian Sea. Mostly sunny in the afternoon with some clouds about Campania and Cosenza. Warm temperatures close to 20 degrees dur to very strong southerly winds. Very rough seas with sea surges along the Campanian coast. Similar conditions in Sicily with much temperatures above 20, while in Sardinia, the skies will be sunny during the day with showers in the north by night,

Yes some amazing temperatures on the warm side.....as well as some very cold temperatures in the north due to persistant fog. Some of the warm temperatures are record Christmas temps, some places were the warmest in December for 80 years!

Also there are reports of some parts of Venice being underwater due to a very high tide and very strong southerly winds. The island of Burano is reporting all houses with their ground floors flooded. Also with very heavy rain about, rivers in northern Italy are showing signs of possible flooding. Also the warm temperatures are melting the snows from earlier in the week and also raising river levels!

Spring like temperatures are hitting Italy after the freezing temps of last week. However these warm temperatures come at a cost as its causing rain storms and meltng snows and these are flooding vast parts of the country. Italy is not having a good winter!! This however will clear for toda

North West:
Mostly sunny in most areas, cloudy conditions over the Alps with possible snow on the higher peaks. Temperatures will be warmer at lower elevations due to the Fohen winds blowing, up to about 10-12 degrees. Windy in Alpine valleys but the Ligurian Sea won't be that choppy.

Aosta: -1to11 sunny
Turin: 0-12 sunny
Milan: 2-10 mostly sunny
Genoa: 5-7 mostly sunny.

North East:
Clouds clearing to mostly clear skies by evening. Maximum temperatures rising especially over Emilia-Romagna in the south and will be about 8-11 degrees. West north westerly winds mostly light. The northern Adriatic Sea will be smooth to choppy.

Trento: 2-8 mostly sunny
Venice: 3-8 partly sunny
Trieste: 8-11 partly sunny
Bologna: 3-10 partly sunny

Central:
Clouds clearing to mostly sunny skies, starting from the west in Tuscany. Some showers still about the regions of Abruzzo and Molise. Not much variation in temperatures from yesterday. Light to moderate Mistral winds with choppy seas.
