Next chance may be next week. February as we all know is the hottest month

Stinker down here with 33.6C. Very humid with DP in the mid teens. Got a few high based showers but didn’t quite tip the gauge.

Top for Tasmania 36C at multiple sites in the south. Victoria 44.2C at Mildura. City an other near miss on 40C. Irrigation around that site on hot days really cools the local temps.

Few nice thunderies, around Victoria, but guess concern is lightning starting fires now. Getting dry, and cells are moving fast so won’t douse anything that gets started.

Waiting to see how this next event shapes up. Progs hinting that it could be the worst event for Victoria since 2009 in terms of heat, but hopefully progs wind it back. Pretty concerning scenario. EC even threw up 52C in WA, so source region is pretty feral.

No rain or thunder in Epping this afternoon. Looks like 0.2mm this morning.

Expected 42 at viewbank but it peaked at 40.3

Weird day here too. Took its time to warm up with some weak high based storms around this morning, followed by a quick rise up to the mid 30s when the cloud cleared. Local aws topped out at 39.7c but suspect a few spots around town topped 40c. We got 3mm from two separate storms on the gusty change around 6pm. Cooler but still muggy outside now.

Classic summer day in Vic heat, storms, fires, wish wasnt working

Mild this morning with thunderstorms on the pre frontal trough skys looked great and storms where racing
Then hot and sunny then more thunderstroms and showers before strong and gusty cool change.

Made it to the beach 45 mins before the change, was great swimming watching the lightning to the west and south, some big bolts then change hit and it was chilly but geee the bay was nice and warm, beach was packed everyone soaking up the hot weather

Cool cloudly week then summer moves in next week biggest heatwave in years

Biggest heatwave in SE Aus since at least black summer next week looking very hot and over multiple days and working them all too which sucks but beach will be great in evenings
Proper stinker of a heatwave next week not a flash burst like today

Engrey market going to be really tested for the first time since black summer and schools back too and there will be cyclones and floods in the north huge week of weather next week

Enjoy the cooler days this week
Bring on the heat and stroms

A different type of day, looked at stormy skies early, dogs tail between legs licking the glass back door.
39.8 at 4pm was our max..
Little latter was the big drops with ice, love the sound of it hitting metal..

Rain at present 2am is annoying on tin roof, big drops but spaced out..

Summer is about to arrive so it seems..

The viewbank site recorded a maximum of 40.8 when you look at the source which is recorded every 10 minutes the maximum is 40.3

Any reason behind this? Its not the first time I've seen it.

Do you mean the 10 minute data had a high value of 40.3C? Those values are instantaneous. On a hot days temps will jump up and by a few tenths of a degree within a 10 minute block. The instaneous, max, and min values are all calculated automatically.

Btw curious how cool Olympic Park is. All that irrigated lawn makes a big difference on the hot days. In the past Mildura also had an issue being unusually cool because of all the irrigated farming, and from memory Victoria River Downs also had an issue for a period.

So sad to see those fires out west. The Little Desert fire burnt out most of the national park in only a few hours. Must have been a really hot and fast burn. Would take a big toll on the wildlife and flora :( Then people suffer by fire impact and also the long term impact on tourism. Have quite a few friends who camp out there at times, and now they won’t be able to for at least a while.

Guess a new thread time, unfortunately for another stinking event.
