Severe Tropical Cyclone Kirrily

Post by WeatherNerdEd »

Tropical Low 05U Developing
Hi all!
Just thought I'd make a post about the current status of Tropical Low 05U.
  • Currently it is of pressure 997:
    Image
  • BoM also states the following in their Forecast Description report published at 19:11 AEST 19/01/2024:
The tropical low will strengthen over the weekend, and is likely to become a tropical cyclone by late Sunday or Monday.
I have archived this report at: https://archive.md/Tn8Og, although the Forecast Map is broken
  • This is a track map made by a Wikipedia editor:

No Technical Bulletin or Forecast Track Map has been published yet.

The next name in BoM's naming list is 'Kirrily', and this is likely to be the name given to this current low.

I also contribute to this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Low_05U_(2024), so you can check it out for updated information.

This system has now been named Kirrily and has been upgraded to L3 (aka Severe Tropical Cyclone)

Severe Tropical Cyclone Kirrily (05U) is likely to hit at Townsville later this evening (AEST).
Thanks!

Re: Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily

After landfall, Kirrily quickly de-intesified into a Remnant Low. It is now around the North Qld area.
To show how quickly it dissipated, I have a few images below.
