Agree with the principles of respectful comments, but everyone has the right to express their view. I work for a major public company that frequently gets verbally bashed, but i don't take it personally. The comments directed at the BoM are NOT directed at individuals that work there at all.
Anyone verbally abusing individuals directly should not be allowed here, but the BoM is a public company.

Only 3mm down here for now. Seems very subtle

Only a couple of mm here so far, but early days.

Annoying having the Rainbow radar operating so intermittently :(. When there's weather coming in from our north-west, there's no decent substitute for it.

32.5mm so far today. I'm actually surprised it's not a higher total considering that it has been raining since 7am.
74.5mm YTD. I think that this is the best start to a year since we have lived up here.
I remember a few years back, possibly 2019, where it took until early May to crack the 100mm ytd mark.
Loving these wet years.

Got to stay polite for sure.

But Karl would be having conniptions if he thought he created a forum protecting wokeism.

Got to a very muggy, dead calm 30C day here, partially overcast, before rain seeped down over the ranges from the NNW mid arvo. Poured out 5mm at 4.45pm, and has remained calm and raining steadily since.

Just got back from a drive to Charlton (from Wallan). Flooded paddocks and beginnings of water over roads - north of Heathcote! 14mm here in Wallan so far as of now.

PS: might be double that after this current radar blob passes south!

Yes I remember that time well. Countryside as dry as dust and all vegetation, gums etc looking very sickly and stressed. The area around Bendigo in particular was super parched.

What a change to now.

Love seeing everything vibrant and green even in summer.

I was over in Adelaide for new year and they’ve also had a fair bit of rain throughout the hills and regions there too

It was the greenest I’ve ever seen it for this time of year, it looked amazing as usually it’s very yellow / parched land in the summer over there, even in the 2020-2022 El Niño years - but not this year.

Steady rain here this arvo in Melb on about 12 mm so far. Looks like there might be some heavier bursts brewing up north for later, perhaps they’ll work their way down here.

18mm since 2pm here, 15mm of it fell in the first two hours. Has backed off to mainly light rain since.

Surprised that we’ve scored so well, was expecting to get heavily rainshadowed today. Must be a testament to the sheer amount of moisture over Vic atm.

Most models have us pegged for another inch by this time tomorrow. Hoping it all clears up for the rest of the week for our next beach trip.

Very very humid day with light rain on and off, no thunder or downpours.

It seems all the action is up in the wimmera/mallee although models were saying there was to be lots more here with thunder and lightning but it seems like a lot of these systems its saying away from here

43mm here. We were lucky to be on the right side of the rain band. It just poured down all day but eased off late this afternoon to light showers this evening. No thunder, just humid tropical-like rain.

I don't think it could be any more saturated here now. An amazing summer so far. Would be great if it continues.

50mm so far today. Looks like a last hurrah with the incoming band from the West. That delivered 17mm to hopetoun, so probably a similar amount to add to the total here.

Thanks. I'm going to work through the posts later today and clean that up too.

Anyway the rain was crazy last night, hopefully it's eased off a bit.

Wow! Some flooding problems East of Bendigo this morning. Campaspe one to watch, although likely to have two peaks North of Eppalock given it hasn't spilled yet.

Quite a lot of road closures, especially around Heathcote and Redesdale. Messy.

Well what a drink! Just tipped out 86mm! Lots of deep booming thunder (which I recorded) around 0200 this morning.

Unremarkable but useful 14mm here. First proper rain in a month. Very good falls through the centre of Tasmania where the past 12 months has been near record dry. Won’t turn it around in one fall, but very useful. Puts the fire season on hold.

Amazing falls for VIC, though some crazy gradients. Quite a few records in north central, while spots not too far away didn’t crack 10mm. Still a fair bit to come, particularly for central areas. The weather is crazy atm tbh. Hard to make sense of it, but the record warm sea surface temperatures and month after month of positive SAM are obvious drivers.

Bit puzzled by this El Niño discussion. El Niño impacts break down during summer, and that’s what has happened. This wasn’t a strong El Niño, being middle rung at best, Sometimes it’s earlier that the breakdown happen as in 1994 and sometimes it is later such as 1982. VIC got lucky, but not Tasmania. In the tropics the monsoon is running late, so no sign of a break yet. There is almost no relationship between El Niño and Victorian rainfall, so no one should not be surprised when it doesn’t stay dry in summer.

The period when El Niño has an influence on the southeast being winter/spring was ordinary for most of southern Oz and record or near record warm for all of us.

Up to 55.5mm here, incredible result and way beyond what a lot of the models had for progged for us.

Woke up to a long torrential downpour at 2.30, but must have slept through the rest of it. Looks like the area to our west through to Pakenham copped more, saw a few VicEmergency incidents presumably in the usual hotspots where the local drainage system can’t cope.

The weather patterns since early October has been memorable.
