Bit of an in between thread for a swly sequence this week. Quite a strong front on Tuesday, but moisture starved. There are then a couple of weaker fronts. Should be ok falls along the Vic coastal strip and western Tas. Not much elsewhere.
A very mild day down in southern Tasmania but cooling down now. Unfortunately not a lot in the front with rain on the west coast, but just showers and quite sparse ones for the east. It’s currently shaping up as a really dry month for us
Repeated fronts in the sequence but each is pretty moisture starved. Just showers.
Watch northwest Australia in the next couple of weeks as these cold surges and big highs rapidly chill the eastern Indian Ocean. Will probably put us into a positive IOD.

Yep, a dry winter is almost a given. Positive IOD is very likely too given the Bay Of Bengal cyclone in the past day or so. If one occurs in Mid-May, it pretty much locks in a +ve IOD.
Yeah, the signs are not looking great for rain in the second half of the year unfortunately. I was rather hoping we might be able to pull off a negative IOD to help counter the El Nino, but the trends are all moving in the opposite direction.
A cold, sunny morning here at the moment. Was down to 2.9c earlier this morning. We had 8.8mm in the past day, most of which came with the front and then a bit more with drizzle and light showers last night in a southeasterly stream.
Looking generally cool to cold right into the weekend, with showers here and there as fronts/troughs move through although mostly south of the ranges in Vic. A couple of models, including EC, are hinting at something more substantial later next week, but it's still a fair way out so have to wait and see.
Third frost in a row in Howden. Sub zero values in the horse paddock, but just above zero up the hill near the house where I’ve got the screen. I do need to move it down into the paddock so I get better obs
Weak front today.
Next week could get wild. Big deep slow moving low in the southeast. Not a wet system for most but gales and cold southwest ot westerlies. Big fall in western Tasmania, but once you head inland not so much. Possible very low level snow. Guess we will see. Have seen some very good low level snowfalls in El Niño events, despite the dry.
Unremarkable weather here lately, except for the cold - tracking significantly below average, and it doesn't look like that's going to change for the rest of the month.
Rain keeps quietly ticking over with an even 40mm mtd. May average is 76mm, so we might be a chance if some of the models are right.
Certainly is cold. My May median maximum temp so far is 8.4°.
Twelve days of the month so far have failed to reach 10° and the warmest day so far was 13.3°.
Feels like winter already.
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m

7mm for the week here. Has turned mild again, 13C here this morning at 6am.
Next front on Thursday will bring cooler air and some showers but still nothing particularly notable for most of Oz on the progs. Feels like El Niño atm, tbh.
