for some reason it all seems to be avoiding this area today, the west and north suburbs seem to be copping it the most

Some decent heavy rain here. Short lived, but better than nothing.

Airport has picked 60mm last hour. Planes have been in a holding pattern.

All the best storms out west and north as usual. Wish the bay wasn't there

We somehow narrowly missed that cell that went through Craigieburn while driving back from Kilmore. Copped the back end of it when we got to Wallan. Had no idea it was that intense until my wife saw the reports coming through on her phone. :o

10mm here today in short heavy bursts since daybreak. Plenty of thunder and lightning skirting our place, but no direct hits.

Eastern burbs always struggle in southeasterly flow. Had so many frustrating days in the Nongs with that flow pattern.

Another chance tomorrow though again flow will be southeast so not a great setup.

Down here some nice showers out over the outer Derwent and Huon valley and the odd rumble but sea breezes kept them off the plains. Another chance tomorrow.

Cracking storm moved over us here around 8pm, 13mm and a great flang fest that continued afterwards from a rain free base as back building continued to our south and east. Great cloud structures on arrival and on the back edge.

Did anyone else notice the thunder sounding odd today?

Finished the day with 42mm, which includes 11mm from overnight. Definitely in a good spot for it today, with storms firing most of the afternoon and plenty of thunder and lightning. Takes the month to 106mm.

Progs showing quite a lot of storms across the hills in eastern Tasmania today, but question is how many drift onto the plains. Similar for Victoria, looking active around the ranges but onshore low level winds will hamper the drift onto the flats. Thinking a frustrating day of watching the radar. Those tucked near the hills the best chance.

The calm after the storms looked pretty good from bayside last night. The sun reflected off a cell to the NW last night, the summer solstice.

I was up the hill above Wallan in my car during the storm Skywalker referred to. Was pretty full on with whiteout rain for 5-10 mins, strong winds and small hail. Once it cleared, I photographed this spiral on my phone almost overhead"

The backend looked like this looking east:

Later, I was watching the radar and I saw the cell that smashed the airport and surrounds from where it became a left mover making a beeline for Wallan. This one I photographed on one of my good cams as the beast was bearing down:

It promptly died on the doorstep!

Thx Gordon! Yeah that left mover from the airport looked an absolute beast - never seen one like that down here for ages. I actually saw a swirl on the gust front as it passed overhead.

Ended up scoring a few storms late yesterday. Quite visually attractive, but pulsey and fairly high bases so rain totals were mostly modest. Just on 5mm here, with most spots getting 2-5mm. Couple of higher falls in the upper Derwent and Huon with the odd 10-20mm fall.

Here’s a shot of one of the cell rolling in from the northwest. We’ve got got views part from a single powerline :x

35C here today, equal hottest day for this season since Dec 4th, and we got 1.5mm from a high level storm mid arvo, our first storm for December. Lovely mild calm evening for a bbq and no doubt a "bat attack" to pass over us at dusk.
