2mm for us over the backside of the weekend. MTD on 40mm, so tracking about prorata for the month. Been about average for us temperature rise with 17, 15 and 15C the last three days. Should see a frost this morning. Am reporting from the US with our first holiday in three years so on the wrong time zone
Impressive snowfalls with this last event, though only above about1500m. Reports of 50-80cm at the majors, with Hotham scoring it’s peak snow depth for the year with ~170cm. That looks to be about the long term average nowadays, but peaks this late are becoming rarer as springs warm. Well timed for the resorts with school holidays on
Messy cut off coming up. Totals jumping as it’s slow moving and fades then redevelops. Could be more heavy falls, but hit and miss. Is now feeling pretty classical La Niña with negative IOD with all the lows forming in our general area.
Btw another La Niña signature is early season heat in northern Australia. There’s been repeated early season national records set in northern parts this last week, peaking at 41.8C at Bradshaw which is the hottest before the equinox. Also scattered minimum records, including Cairns with 24.4C. Could make for some early season heat in southern parts when we eventually get a long northerly fetch.
