Thunder earlier.

Easterly rain stopped later in the arvo, left 12mm in the gauge (13mm for thread) and a return to sodden lawn even though we only got 36.6/29.75mm in June/July.

Heaps more recorded in Sale with the morning storm's head start. Cold and calm out now.

Spectacular storms up here; a bit hit and miss but big hail nearby (marble size) and another 4mm of rain in the gauge - 35.5mm for the dates.

One of the cells (sorry about the powerlines):

Poured down here in southeast Tasmania all night. Also gusty winds. Reports of a few trees down,

Few gauges showing over 100mm about the tops of Snug Tier and the near by saddle. More generally 20-60mm. Looks like there could be the odd site setting a new August record (current Grove station is just 3mm short and should make that by 9am). The low is sat near Flinders Island and moving very slowly west. It will eventually get caught by westerly steering around the middle of tomorrow.

Westerly showers starting to wrap up into southern Tasmania.

Very mild down here with a minimum of 11C. Snow line at about 2000m. Victoria is staying in the cold sector of the low with snow still falling to about 1500m.

3.5mm in some overnight showers, steady rain now setting as the low edges closer and we get drawn into its circulating band. Bit of a breeze but nothing to write home about.

Will be keenly watching how far/quickly westward the low tracks and how we fare today.

Still dry FTG.
No rain since Thursday.

Instead of drinking coffee I should be utilising the dry conditions..

Is there talk of wind tonight, ??

Maybe don’t pack up the self inflating beds,

fB showing lots of hail in Mansfield area yesterday..

Great photo Gordon.

Cold and westerly windy here with the odd passing shower. Picked up another 5.5mm overnight in westerly showers as the low formed in Bass Straight.

[edit 6:45pm] just poured out 9mm, steady light rain here continues as it has most of the arvo, cold and calm out there, baro 998 hPa.

22.25mm here for this thread so far. Feels like another 5mm+ is on offer here in Nth Central Gippsland tonight.

Feral all day here with gusty winds and surprisingly heavy rain. Enduring another heavy burst now.

Rain has overflowed into outer tube so don’t know what we’re up to, but looking at local nearby stations on Wunderground we’re likely to be somewhere around 40mm since this morning.

Driving around this arvo I noticed a lot of the local creeks and streams are full, with lots of standing water in the usual spots. If the forecast rain comes off over the next week it’ll get interesting.

Right on the edge. Picking some streams every now and then, but not quite adding up to much.

(p.s. can someone update me on what happened re. the site and Rivergirl via pm, bit out of the loop)

15mm in the gauge this morning. Heavy rain cleared just after 9am yesterday, but then heavy short showers. Quite hit and miss, with some spots on about 5mm and others over 50mm. Very much in the warm sector of the low with a cloud base near sea level and showers that would do the tropics proud.

The low is about to edge southeast so winds here go east then south then southwest.

Crazy gradients with this low. Hobart cbd on about 30mm but Kunanyi over 150mm, just 10km apart. Similar story in Vic with the cbd on zero, but spots approach 100mm in the Yarra valley and south Gippsland.

Obviously too far out of range yesterday for anything meaningful rain wise here, with only a few brief showers. A good drenching to areas east of Melbourne however.

We're just on 20mm for the dates following the showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday, and just over 60mm MTD. Currently, showers are occurring to our north and south while the sun is occasionally poking out from behind the clouds here.

Certainly is some crazy differences in rainfall totals HB & my two properties are a prime example. We have had 35mm during the past 24 hours down on the island, whereas the western wasteland has received a bit fat zero.

Pengaz wrote: Sat Aug 13, 2022 12:32 pm Pretty mild here too, but looks unstable above and murky to the east with the thundery rain blob Petros will be sitting under this arvo.

Not sure we’ll see much make it this far west today, but I’m sure we’ll make up for it early next week when the flow swings around to the southwest.
It sure did, major flooding around Darnum this morning.

We got another 5mm last night till the low drifted too far south for our area. A total of 26mm of un-needed rain here for this event. Our ground is still sodden from the autumn rains, despite dry June/July. Very windy today, so things should begin to dry out quickly into the Ides of September.

All very dry here now. Lake Eppalock still languishing on 51%. Everything is focused on Southern Vic for the rest of the week. Yawn!

Nice to see the showers about in the Mallee today widespread but very hit and miss get under 1 or 2 and they were heavy almost summer like just needed to be more widespread, some got close to 10mm today but lots of 3 to 5mm on top of the same from Saturday :)

Hoping for 5 to 10mm for much of Mallee on Thursday, but progs prob drop back to 1-5mm hopefully not.

Still things are green up here great to see but a nice soaking 10mm would hold them over till Sept

SB you will get a nice fall on Thursday north facing and good moisture feed just fast moving

Big cold outbreak possible early next week then dry patch after that

Wet week ahead of the SW, east of Melb, and NE ranges with Wly stream next week or so easy 30 to 50mm for many keeping things very wet in the south and lots of minor flooding here and there just waiting for the big event Sept to Dec
Bring on the heat and stroms

Ended up tipping out 65mm earlier today. That’s the best single 24hr fall I think I’ve had in my almost 9 years living in Warragul. 68.5mm for the event to date.

Lots of warnings for the Moe River during the night and this morning, looks like a decent flood which will linger with the forecast rain for the rest of the week.

Been largely dry since midday with the flow turning westerly, but tonight it’s turned back to southwesterly again and light showers have returned.

Getting very wet here with another 5mm making nearly 50mm for the dates and 73mm mtd. Water roaring down local creeks.

Those are big falls out east!
