wow ... huge thunder claps, very heavy downpour, and not a word of warning from the BOM
Cloudy. Windy. Very high (95%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon, with gusty winds and possible small hail. Winds north to northwesterly 25 to 40 km/h turning westerly in the middle of the day.
Could have said that it might scare ya pants off, I’d forgotten what a storm was all about..
19.3mm. Least it didn’t take all day to get that amount of water..
A decent 5mm from this arvo's near-thundery change after a windy NW'ly 24 hrs ahead of it. Takes us to 20mm past 10 days after a very dry June. But soil is still damp out this way.

We narrowly missed that absolute ripper of a storm that went through Bundoora yesterday afternoon. The approach to Plenty Rd exit on the Western Ring Rd was flooded & there was piles of hail everywhere. It looked liked it had snowed.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
We had snow on and off around lunchtime and a little after.
An early max of 4C when sun was out this morning. That is about 2C warmer than I was expecting considering Melbs forecast max was only 10C.
Will be interested to see if it went higher than that.

It is fairly difficult to achieve a sub-zero minimun on my sloping mountain top property. Had my first one for the winter on a clear breezy night last night.
Down to -0.7 and still -0.5 at 9am despite the sun.

Must've had some cloud cover overnight. Only got down to 1 degC very briefly. July 2022 has so far seen colder nights and warmer days than average. Not what you expect in a La-Nina.
I can't see much rain until about a week into August. What happened to all these predictions of a wet winter? It should be with the IOD diving to negative. I suspect the SAM is throwing a spanner in the works.

BOM's Thursday's forecast for here is something rarely seen, overnight low is forecast to be -1°C. Brrrrr!
BoM's "night forecast model" (if it ever had a name) is broken. When i used to live near you, it would hardly predict negative minimums yet the occurrence of negatives was at least 3-5 per year.
