We've only got to 8.4 degC so far today. We could end up with today being our coldest May day since the infamous 7.5 degC on 27th May 2000...
Have been thinking about the similarities between this event and the late May 2000. That system made up of multiple lows at very low pressure and dumped a foot of snow in places like Kinglake, Marysville, areas above 400metres particularly central ranges from memory. Plus a metre dumped across the vic and nsw alps. Nothing quite like it since.
It was a combination of extremely cold uppers and a warm Australian Bight/Bass Strait. It went absolutely nuclear. I spent the Saturday afterwards having the most blissful day of cross-country skiing at Lake Mountain on 90 cm of fresh snow. It was other-worldly.
It sure has been a chilly day, though I suspect tomorrow will feel colder when the gusty winds kick in and add some wind chill.
Made it to a brief max of 7.5c this morning but for most of the day the temp has hovered between 6.5c and 5.5c. 12.8mm so far, with rain persisting pretty much all day. We’ve needed it, as it has been a fairly dry month here.
7mm here mostly from some gusty heavy showers that rolled in around 4am.
Ridiculously cold here yesterday despite little wind. Our max temp here briefly reached 9c around 3pm, but generally hovered around 8c most of the day.
Once again lack of precipitation is an issue with this latest cold outbreak, especially for those of us out here in the western wasteland. Absolutely freezing out there in the wind!
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.

Yeah, really is a shame the coldest of air is nearly always the driest
Briefly just to 10C yesterday, but most of the day was 8-8.5C, calm and cold, with a remarkably low baro of 987hPa. Back to 992hPa today, with fresh westerly wind, no showers yet.
Freezing in Ballarat today with a Max of 6.2c at the Airport and 6.5c at my place in Sebastopol.
Had some sleety showers with a few snow flakes as well.
Temp at the Airport dropped to 1.9c at 4pm.
