Showers 27/4-2/5

Post by Gordon »

Looks like a humid north-easterly feed will push showers and possible rain into northern Victoria from late tomorrow, with southern Vic getting something late in the week as the moisture links up with a trough and cold front.

Not super confident about this one yet (for our area at least), but it shows up on the latest BOM 4-dayer, so worth a thread as the details unfold.

Models are still rather jumpy so details may change a little more over the next 24 hours. But based on where things stand at the moment, showers/rain extending from the west from tomorrow, with the main focus on Friday and into Saturday as a cold front comes through. In general, looks like some very good falls in western parts of the state and also to the east of Melbourne. But most areas can probably expect more than 10mm+.

Locally, we're likely to be in a rain shadow for some of it, so not expecting huge falls here but anything would be a useful follow up on the rain around mid-month.

Nothing much happening here today. Friday-Saturday might be quite wet if the NW cloudband delivers (looks rather "Negative IOD-esque", and a portent of what's to come this winter) ...

When did we last have 5 consecutive 20+ degree days in Melbourne from Anzac Day into the cooler months?

Seems an unusually long run this late in the season.

It has happened in May before. Nothing extreme :)

Some good falls there in Tassie.

We had very light rain here last night, but it wasn't enough to register in the gauge. The sky currently looks as though it is about to pour, but there's very little appearing on the radar. Quite a mild night for late April, with 13.7c here as a minimum.

A gloomy past 24 hours - 5mm of misty drizzle and low cloud.

Tomorrow looks like we'll get a break with a warm 23c forecast before the next front which might deliver 10-30mm...

8mm of drizzle this week. But tonight has been downgraded to 10-15mm at most. Still a decent top-up likely for the end of April. My lawns and garden have been enjoying it.

Sheez... He might think differently now.; band getting quite organised as it moves east.

Impressively chilly cold front now showing up for Tuesday evening. Our first taste of winter perhaps?

Why doesn't BoM write in their 4.30pm forecast what rain amount is expected overnight? It's so annoying

The main part of the front is indeed packing a punch. 21mm here so far with some very heavy rain about 15 minutes or so ago.

Just hit 20mm, at the upper end of models & expectations, so pretty happy with that! A few more mm to come too.

A nice end to April, will finish comfortably above average and well ahead for ytd.

13mm thus far tonight. 22mm so far this week.

April 2022 has certainly delivered - 87mm MTD. About double the average.
