Ho hum, the non-eventful weather boredom continues here in the western desert.
Currently sitting on a rather warm 29.5°C.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.

Still hasn’t rained..

It’s looked like rain,
Smelt like rain,
Even had the moisture feel of rain.
But it still didn’t rain….

James time for a rain dance….

Balmy humid day here in the south with a couple of heavy thunder showers. Warm max of 28C. Locally 5mm around here, with just under 3mm in the gauge. Nearly 25mm for the thread. Everything is green here and the local river is running well. Been a near perfect summer into early autumn here with a big wet spring, mild very humid easterly summer with enough rain to keep it green, and now a good autumn break :D

Waiting for cooler air to push overnight. Looks like getting quite chilly by mid next week perhaps a bit of snows on the higher peaks around here.

Had a couple of very heavy showers earlier this evening, which delivered 5.8mm. Otherwise a warm, mostly cloudy day and a max of 26.6c.

Very good to hear, and those are fantastic falls for snowfall.

Still missing most of it here but another 1mm makes 3mm for the dates and gets us up to 60mm mtd.

Hmmm.... After a promising start, March has settled into a bit of a pattern of model downgrades over the last couple of weeks.

Hope we break that cycle soon.

Typical weather for the start of autumn today. Should go on for another 3 or 4 weeks and then the first big front will break down the pattern and into the depths of winter we go...

If you like calm weather, Late march to end of April is the best usually. Mild days and chilly, comfortable evenings.

That's on average ofcourse :)

I'm not surprised. Eastern Antarctica had an injection of warm air off the Pacific Ocean on the weekend which might delay the delivery of grunty cold fronts in the next few weeks - it'll cool down in time.

Coastal and NE NSW appears to be in the firing line for another rain bomb...

7mm down here today, to add to 5mm on Sunday. Turned nice and green and a bit of water now in the local seasonal creeks. Mt Wellington is on an astonishing 220mm which is a new March record. Meanwhile the western third of Tasmania struggles. The dominance of easterlies is remarkable and follows the most positive SAM on record over summer. This little pocket of southeast Australia is expected to see improving rainfall which is born out this summer.

That warm event over Antarctic is just crazy. Never been anything like it in observations. Monthly records broken over a large area with some values broken by more than 15C. We’ve had some crazy anomalies in recent years but nothing comes close to that event.

Bit of a bust for Victoria again, though the good event early in the month means most spots will end with decent totals.

8.4mm here this afternoon and evening.

We have also benefited locally with the easterly/positive SAM summer, with fairly frequent streams of south easterly and southerly drizzle or light showers along with topographically enhanced falls during larger systems. It’s still had its dry patches, especially in February, but we’re now on 325mm for the year so far, including 141mm for March. La Niña also helps of course, if only it were every year ;)

I have family living in Gembrook and the current pattern is very telling, as they typically have higher rainfall but are running at around two-thirds of the total here, likely reflecting the reduction in south westerly systems this summer. In fact, they’ve been complaining about rain shadowing!

Worth noting that Antarctica has been "bipolar" for the past week or so - a warm Eastern Antarctica, but a cold Western Antarctica. Averages out to +1.3c anomaly (March 21st).

Sea ice extent is also rather low atm.

Change arrived here late yest arvo with a rumble or two, delivered a handy 13.5mm to ensure we stay green into the Autumn. Royal Maffra Golf Course has now set yet another historical benchmark in terms of fairway quality.
