Yeah, same up here at the top of the Nongs. Everything has gone quiet. There’s almost no wind and the sun is only faint through the smoke. It’s so thick that there is no heat in the sun despite our temperature being 36C.

49.2C at Keith. Getting seriously close to 50C at almost Melbourne latitudes :o and south of Adelaide and Sydney. Only a matter of time one of our capitals get there now :(

Storms are happening in SA and starting fires. This is likely to be a real problem in NW Vic too later today.

Unfortunately smoke haze didn't stop the temperature from skyrocketing during Black Saturday. :(

44 in Laverton, 45 in Avalon. The western desert is baking. :firey:

41c here. Sounds like the smoke haze may be thicker out east than it is here.

Lucky them. Peak heating is between now and 6pm for Melbourne. 43.8 might be abig ask to break the record, but it's definitely not our of the question.

Convection building in Western Vic along the entire border. If the air was moist, I would be excited. Not looking good re fires.

I think the haze has helped capped temperatures

Just saw on TV that apparently there are vicious bushfires in the Lofty Ranges just above Adelaide.

That's pretty much the equivalent to Mt Dandenong burning. Many small towns and a lot of people there.

Hopefully they can contain it soon

Not sure about that Ballarat record. Was 41.6 at 4.30 and 40.9 at 4.32 and then hit 43.5 at 4.35 before dropping back to 40.9 at 4.40
Currently 41.0c at 5pm
Reached 41.8c on my PWS
A record for sure but that sudden temperature spike seems a bit sus.

I was there a few months ago, just like the Dandenongs but worse, very narrow roads, dense housing, many one way roads, roads going around in circles, no signs, few lights.
I said to my mate this is a joke, it will go up one day and no one will get out.

Emergency warning for a fire near Amphitheatre. They're a bit concerned it might impact the Rainbow Music Festival (where many of those attending are probably as high as a kite...).

Thankfully the festival isn't until next month, they'd be extra fried otherwise...

Max of 37C here, and now down to 34C. We always cool down after around 5pm here as the sun drops below the tree lines.

Crazy how many records have fallen today. Basically just about every thing west and north of Melbourne. Definitely not your normal weather :( Just a hot day here, equivalent to about 42.C at sea level. That’s maybe a once a decade type of heat, not the once a century or not seen before heat out west.

Chance of the odd shower or storm overnight. There is quite a good tropical indeed, but below it the low levels are very dry. Hopefully this one doesn’t start fires in remote elevated locations and set us up for another 2002 or 2006 8-)

Hehehehe. Music Festival
Yep bloody hot here. Still 41.3 @ 6.20 pm
Parents are in Horsham, they didn't know the 47.9 until I rang.
Once it's 40 what's a few more.
