Last night as I was picking my wife up, there was a lot of smoke from what appeared to be around the Mt Nebo direction. A very nice sunset with a long smoke cloud moving in a NE’erly direction.
Had the window open a little last night and had a very strong smell of smoke filling the air. Still present this morning. I need to crank start the big computer up and get into all my bookmarks. I haven’t been able to find exactly where the, from what I believe, was a controlled burn off, was happening . I pad’s are OK but I just find them a little limited at times.
But on a positive note, Wednesday was looking dreadful with a predicted max of 27°C, fortunately this has been revised and I glad to see that we now only have a possible max of 26°C. Man I was worried about 27°C for July. :headbang:

Another nice frosty morning here on the southside of Brisbane (pic above).
However next week, both min and max temps in our region still look set to rise up a bit closer to the July averages (and on some days, warmer than normal, especially afternoon temps as we get closer to midweek).... but there should be some fluctuations and some nights/mornings may still feel quite cool.
Just a few of the colder min temps this morning from SE QLD and the Downs include:
-6.1 in Applethorpe
-4.3 in Oakey
-4 at Wellcamp Airport
-4.3 in Warwick
-3.1 in Dalby
-1.3 in Canungra
-1.2 in Amberley
Glen Innes Airport also got down to -12.3, just shy of its record for the current site.
Yes Colin. I could see quite strong smoke hazs over Mt warning this morning.
From a high pressure inversion l suppose.
...
Another great pic' of frost down your way Ken.,and thanks for some of those min temps'.
Thats why l like going on weather forums because someone has posted stuff you never had time to look at or never thought to look at.
I was 7 deg c here this morning at 6am. I left meat out tom thaw overnight for the dogs and it was still frozen in the morning.
20.4deg was the highest it got here today at coolongatta..,The wind swung around to northerly at 12pm bringing slightly higher dew points..

Another frosty morning here today (pic above) as well as some shallow mist in the lower lying areas, but frost extent will probably contract a touch further inland for the coming week as temps rise a bit.
Forecasts currently suggest max temps in particular becoming a fair bit above average and reaching the mid 20's for many lowland locations in SE QLD as we get closer to midweek which is within the warmest 10% of past July max temps (decile 9).

Another cool start today, a low 7.9°C.
We went for a quick 4WD trip up Mt Mee and then from the national park drove to the Mt Mee lookout. Beautiful scenery as you leave the National park and at the lookout. But what really hit us, we knew there was a bit of smoke haze around, you can smell it at times but you don’t really see it all the time. But yesterday afternoon, you could see that right over Brisbane and up to the North Coast and through the Valleys there was a blanket of smoke covering the whole area. I didn’t expect it to be that bad. We need rain urgently as we all know. If we go into Spring with hot dry weather, then possible bushfires are going to be a real concern on top of everything else.
Sub tropical jet has been zonal for at least the past 6 weeks.
There are some signs of a change.
High amplitude upper 200hpa troughing seen peaking in the NW of WA .Forecast 24th July 2019 seen on
this snap below
We just need the surface synoptic to 'come to the party'
Maybe a more dynamic jetstream pattern will stir up the current benign surface pattern

A slightly warmer start to the day. This morning we had a min. Of 9.1°C at 0512 at BR.
Currently 11°C at 0615.
8.8°C feels like temp.

There is a fair bit of cloud cover around but any chance of rain really diminished each day of the forecast. Now there is only a 5% chance of any rain.
The only slightly better chance of rain is Thursday and Friday with possibility of 20% chance on each day. So very slim. The dryness continues. Not what we wanted to hear.
BoM are suggesting a slight chance of thunderstorm activity near the NSW/ QLD border.
Meteye and storm cast are not very interested in the idea. The sounding for this afternoon has little instability, very little moisture. See how it pans out and the sounding later this morning but I don’t have high hopes personally ( hoping to use reverse psychology so I can have to eat humble pie)

Hi 'squid'.
Glad you made it over from the sinking ship,WZ
Nice captain here friendly staff and posters.
So where are you located?
.......
There was some convection going up here between 11 and 2 , 'colin',and then it started to subside.
Here is a good image showing that moisture and cloud in our region today
After over a week of colder than average morning lows, we are now slightly below average overall for the first time this month. High temps still remain about 1C above average. Looks like afternoon temps will increase a bit for this coming week. Should feel really nice! Hope we have a good month of storms coming up like we did in October 2018!

27 degs at home today. Going to be a typical Winter's night though by the feel of things already.
So where is home 'hoffa'?
That is certainly am coastals summer time temp' max'
Thanks for those obs',Ken. It certainly has been fabulous weather for the tourists.
Lets hope the meridonal jetstream pattern atm, can change that dry, hot pattern on the near future.
The burn offs near the tweed tip have been just awful
