Just missing that band here for now. Water temps in the Bays and Bass strait are currently 4 to 5c warmer than the air temp above it. That epic cell around Wonthaggi is a loving that soupy warm sea surface feed.
I've been watching that cell around Wonthaggi all morning. Just amazing how stationary it's been.

The moisture advection machine will hopefully starts launching southerly water bombs off the bay with that nice upward motion.
I'm actually waiting with anticipation for things to go more southerly for this reason. Hopefully it will launch those bombs & fling it upwards towards us. We have been right on the edge of things here up until now.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
Some wonderful totals out west - east and CBD missed out this morning but finally firing up in the CBD - pouring outside here at work just on lunchtime and I'll venture out soon!
Rainfall update from Sebastopol (Ballarat)
47.2mm's up to 9am here and 43.8mm's at Ballarat Airport. Alltime daily record for May at the airport is 48.2mm's
Since then another 14.2mm's here and 12.2mm's at the Airport.
My MTD is now 116mm's
Temp hasnt been higher than 8.4c so far today.
Things are about to get interesting down here. VERY dark, low clouds just moving in now.
Radar is looking good, and going by the totals in the past 12 hours elsewhere, 10 to 20mm is looking good from this blob. Southeasterly streams usually produce the most rain here, straight off Westernport
Good totals for many today, with a bit of sunshine next week, should really start to see some green come through.
We landed on 63mm for the last 24hrs, and that's 132mm for May so far.
34mm here since midnight. The tanks are full again, which is a big relief. Driving home this afternoon, I noticed fields with pools of standing water, and dams almost full again, making it such a big change to only a couple of weeks ago. Our MTD is now around 63mm. We didn't do quite as well as some areas with the event last week, but even so we're now just above the average monthly rainfall for May, so it's very welcome especially given we're only 10 days in. Reached a maximum of just 9.8c today, currently 8c.
