I think the WZ lightning tracker's on the fritz. We've had constant CG's for the last 1/2 hr now, but not showing up. Got the weather channel on the TV and it's showing lightning right accross the east of the state.

Also on a side note - all flights now cancelled at Melbourne Airport due to the storms....

We had 5-10mm here yesterday, its now up to 40-80 and i'd imagine we'd be well into that by now

Petros, the chart on Mar 6 had in a box in it and an arrow that looked like they'd been done on paintbrush "THIS THUNDERSTORM IS VERY DANGEROUS."
It's brilliant. Look it up.

It's a crying shame that there's so much bloody rain around, no point getting out amongst these suburban sparkies.

Bendigo just broke the record for most rain in Feb, it was 70.2mm and were on 77.4mm and still raining. And about 240mm for the year already.. 2010 might get a shake after All. :D

Glad to be finally home after a drama-filled drive and dinner!! Constant lightning and pouring rain all the way home - glad I don't have to go out in that anymore today! If tomorrow is meant to be worse this worries me a little.

Rain easing and this is reflected on satpic. Still going strong in SA and that could cause issues in a few hours if it keeps going.

On news, SES have had to rescue 49 so far.

Great work melsy. You can come back!
Isn't it a Pour Petros? Can you imagine the discussion in the Bureau just prior to that going out..?

Hey not complaining at all. What i meant was with the downpours it felt much more than that. Don't think the gauge picked it all up

Hi guys :)

Just posing in from Yea.

We have had a steady rain for a while now but nothing overly heavy and no thunder or lightning. Last time I checked that rain gauge (hour or so ago) we were around 15mm

Really not sure what to expect over the next 24 hrs for this area??

Hope everyone stays safe and as flood free as possible.

ok, that line that has been slowly moving up the bay all arvo (backbuilding to the west as it goes) - will it collapse over the divide?? I suspect not - possibly the opposite (orographic convection).
Thoughts anyone??
Peter

Up to 72mm here currently with 18mm of that falling to 9am today. Will post MTD and YTD at a later point. Spent the evening at KNox City helping the staff at retravision save their stock from floodwater that came surging thru their front door suddenly. They gave us a fantastic discount on our purchase for our help which was great.

Got caught in all the flooding around Knox area and especially Knoxfield. Karl has been quite busy helping people sandbag their flooded houses so it is why he hasn't been on line. Phone reception had also been offline for a while. Yes it was true about kids swimming in the left lane of FTG Rd.Drove straight past it and was praying that noone would get killed. They were neck high in the water (assuming they were sitting or swimming)

Still pouring down here. Constant thunder and lightning. Stay safe all out there. Thanks for all your great posts and up to date information.

Rant: Sick of hearing in the media that this was a freak event. We all knew it was coming and if the BoM would be more accurate and give people more timely warnings, people could have been more prepared or changed their plans so they were not out in these conditions. End Rant

Fireone, thanks so much, where do you get all your info for our region? Are you part of the CFA or SES?
