We're in a 'clearing' currently with the rain back to light. To be honest I hope it stays that way until the main rain band comes through. 50-100mm in that easily. The last thing we need up here is another 25 odd mm in between. :? Looking like a nice dry week ahead after this with DPs back into single figures in less than a week's time.

Chunky but fast moving band now around Echuca heading this way. It'll probably impact in about an hour if it holds. A few dramas in SA Riverland atm with flash flooding.

Anyone know how much rainfall Gisborne has to 9am this morning? I know Kyneton had 109mm but can't seem to find Gisbornes total? Also wondering how much Gisborne has had for this event since it started? Kyneton sat on 175mm to 9am this morning, be great if someone could find out for me or get me a link, thanks.

I'm not sure about Gisborne, but Rosslynne Res (a few km to the NW), has only had 31mm for the past couple of days but 102mm for the month. Gisborne would be pretty similar I reckon.

Ignore the low radar reflectivity. The back end cell passing through echuca is a US style classic monster of a supercell. The cell has produced fully ground hugging rotating wall clouds for the last hour an a half and if anything appears to be ramping things up. The pictures are mind blowing.
Edit: Heavy Flash flooding in Echuca, it really needs a severe thunderstorm warning on it if anyone from the bureau is watching.

Had some fairly heavy rain here, bringing the total today so far up to about 17mm according the AWS. Rain Rates were around 50mm/hr at times. No wind here at all. 22 degrees outside (reached a max of 24 earlier) and DP at 22 degrees. Currently light rain falling.

Further bands of rain will form from the north as the day goes on. And as Anthony mentioned, has not even begun, heaviest rain yet to develop tonight in the western districts at least, plus the north.

Cell up near Echuca looks ominous ... looks like a thunderstorm.

Gee. that cell is heading here fast. Hopefully it loses at least some of its strength as it hits the cooler air in the south and over the ranges. I suspect it will but the rainfall from it will still be torrential I am guessing.

For the third day in a row, the main rain is going just west of us. If it had have been a hundred k's east wewould be on a huge total by now. Now only on 43mm and my prediction earlier this morning that we would only get a couple more mm's is looking increasingly likely. :?

Watch out West Central areas who will suffer some rapid river rises soon. Also if there is another night of heavy rain in the western half watch out all towns on the Wimmera River and in the whole Wimmera catchment. A bad week all round with the flooding nationwide. (Possibly) The worst week in recorded history in terms of flooding. :(

Hi guys,

I've just uploaded some of the shots taken yesterday to my website and am going to try and upload them. Please keep in mind that I had to compress them substantially to upload them, but hopefully everyone should be able to see them okay.

The cell to the West dropping a heap of rain.

Image

A small anvil developing to the South East along the line of storms expected to hit Melbourne.

Image

The same anvil a little later (with a dragonfly appearing as the black dot in the middle)!

Image

Nice low clouds in the cell to the West.

Image

Another nice storm developing in the same line of storms.

Image

The line of rain (is it called the dry line?) from the cell to the West.

Image

Hopefully the images are okay and the uploading has worked. :)

I also have a pano of the cell to the West, but because I was so far away (and the compression), it doesn't really look any good. :(

Cheers, Cam :D

Thankyou very much Meso for the tips! :D

I think you are spot on about the exposure thing and I will try and experiment a bit more next time. Also, thankyou for the incredibly helpful links.

Incredibly humid here today - almost feels like a rainforest! Also very wet. I'm not sure how much rain has fallen though as I don't have a rain guage.

Temp: 23.3 Degrees
Dewpoint: 22.3
Humidity: 94%! :o You can sure feel it.

Looks like the heavy rain (or is it a small cell?) passing through Seymour should hit us soon. :D

Cheers, Cam :D

Heavy shower just went through. Dp has hit an incredible 24 degC. Am I in Singapore or Bendigo? Confused.

Next band between Cohuna and here looks menacing on radar. Wave after wave today.
