Thought it was clearing this morning then it promptly decided to rain here basically all day. Showers so frequent that the rain had not stopped dripping from the trees before the next one had begun. All up closing in on 10mm since 9am. We are not far off our September average already
One stats from this event is that the 6 consecutive 10+mm days at Hobart is an equal record (also 28 December 1970-2 January 1971), so unprecedented for the time of year (so it’s a cool season record). Not out of the question that it will pass 10mm by 9am. Amazing system.
Btw so many damage reports coming in from costal parts. Minor to moderate flooding at Lakes Entrance, record high sea level today at Williamstown, massive erosion at Inverloch, Sandy Point, Bayside, Warrnambool plus many others.. Houses flooded, boat sheds washed away, roads collapsed. Fix up costs and need to put in new ramps, stairs, and coastal defences is going to cost a heap. Sea level rise which is now at 30cm and increasing rapidly is largely to blame for these rapidly increasing impacts.
