At work in Burwood...it's gone SO dark here that the carpark lights have all gone on. CG in the distance, can't hear any rumbles.... :lighting: :lighting: :lighting:

Radar looking interesting. Just had a big flash and a loud bolt (currently almost in town). Might even get wet :)

Wow this Storm is massive. There's lightning in it and thunder. Shame that my dad left the camera plugged to the computer. It ran out of power. At least my mobile can take photos. So want a iPhone now lol

Update: it's now pouring down.

Very dark here with CC lightning and steady rain, had one flang just now but the complex is moving through.

Further rain and thunder to increase this afternoon.

And response to the drought or near drought conditions in the NW - we can discuss that in the Climate section thanks.

Lovely lightning towards the hills at the moment, nice steady rain here and the light has come back after being as black as night before, some of the darkest conditions I have seen in a long time!

Was very dark in Camberwell - sky looked amazing!! A few flashes, some bolts and some very loud thunder. Very unstable looking sky when it came through. Looks a bit more settled now however more thundery bands with isolated storms moving through today.

Moderate rain earlier, but not much accumulated as its moving so fast. Few deep rumbles and lightning was a nice surprise! Next band looks more lightning active?

Morning Kids!.
Managed to get myself under a nice thundery band on the way to work at around 8:50. Was incredibly dark between Boronia and Bayswater to the point even the headlights werent enough. Some great shelf cloud formations, and a good handful of forks were seen. Now getting another band of thundery showers through Bayswater. Not huge rain rates, but nothing to sneeze at.

Still lots of lightning out west and north so I suspect we will get some more, but rainfall should increase towards midday and set in for the remainder of the day.

Should get around 10-25mm across Melbourne from this.

The cold pool looking on track but I fear it will take a more westerly track and restrict showers to the coast and come through at a bad time for us in Central Victoria so I am still sticking with just a few showers for Grand Final with the hail and thunder mainly over the southern and eastern areas.

In all due respect Karl Adon was only answering to your comment
re :we need a drought..
so l would believe you initiated the discussion re: drought on this thread
I didn't think it fair that ADON was chastised for pointing out there is in fact drought in the n/west of VIC atm.

Some rumbles here this morning and has just settled to flat greyish/white low level clouds bringing some light persistent precipitaion atm. Just cranked the fire up and thought wet weather day today
Probably a couple of mm fallen since dawn

The temperature has been bouncing around like a rubber ball at my end over the last 24 hours - it climbed to about 26C at around 2PM yesterday, dipped to 13C at midnight, spiked back up to 22C at 5AM and now it's plummeted to 11C :P

9.5mm of rain so far, I'm making the most of this rainy weather between now and Monday as I'm not looking forward to the upcoming extended dry spell next week, doesn't look like any further rainfall is forecast for quite some time after Monday :(

I'm glad the weather held off on Wednesday, despite the wind it was a lovely afternoon and evening at the Royal Melbourne Show :) it was also a lovely evening when I came back from uni last night, a magnificent halo around the Moon, along with fresh northerlies, fast-moving cumulus, and even a possible flash of lightning from a shower/thunderstorm over the Marysville/Eildon area to the northeast :)

Nice to have heard one of my favourite sounds in all of nature at about 9AM this morning - thunder! :D Not much in the way of decent structure, no real shelf cloud that a few of you mentioned, but some close lightning and a good sprinkle of rain to keep me happy for about 30 minutes or so

G'day

Well can't take a trick here, nothing but dust and wind.

Was 28.9 at 7.30 this morning according to elders. It felt like it too. The wind was really nasty from the nth west till about 11 when it turned to the west and got a fair bit colder, only 20 now.

Am I going to see any rain?

Cheers

Just had the front go through here with a decent shower. Still raining and about 2 mm so far. Rest of the day has been a tease with black clouds thunder but bugger all rain. Now bracing for the cold again.

Had 12.6mm's here since 8.30am.
Looks to be building from the west again now with some heavy showers indicated on radar.
Could get a few more rumbles as well - not long till it hits most of greater Melbourne.
