Some storms popping up over the W district. Not over yet it seems.
US has -3 LIs over Melbourne this evening. Locally there could be 20mm about from any organised storm.

Email from our Ops Manager at work, we're going to have some grumpy clients:
There have been delays due to flooding/landslides between Adelaide and Perth, Melbourne and Perth, Melbourne to Brisbane and also around North Queensland. Add to this the derailment between Adelaide and Darwin which although open now is causing long delays.
Queanbeyan has now been flooded overnight and may cause delays between Sydney and Canberra.

Cells going up over the northern and north eastern suburbs since 4.45pm. One very nice punchy cell thats going to drift over the ranges caught my eye as I drove home as its white tops expanded rapidly upward and outward!

Yep and showing signs of turning left. No CG lightning though. I'm thinking it would be nicely structured with the shear clearly keeping the precip away from the updraft. Would need a hard turn to go toward Geelong but who knows.....
Edit: may have just gone through a split visible on BOM radar.

Light rain just started in the CBD. Large grey cloud over the CBD but patchy cloud outside the city area.

Rather heavy rain failing in Prahran. Where did that come from?
And in moments it's gone.

Going to be a suprise to people these storms approaching Melbourne and the bay suburbs. I don't think it was expected to come the late, or was it?
PS: 8th Dec: Belgrave 19.6mm, Upwey: 20.6mm, me awaiting patiently for my weather station ordered yesterday
