I know this is showing my ignorance...I'm really still a "newbie" hehehe... but can someone explain to me the term "training" with regards to these thunderstorms? I've noticed the term now a few times in this forum and the BOM also...but not sure what it means. Thanks, guys and gals! :P

Basically Duckey, 'training' is just referring to storms 'staying' over a particular area. ;)

Laundry flooded here in Yarraville with 15mm recorded in 7 mins, that's a rain rate of around 150mm an hour!

AWF SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ADVICE
Please use official warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology for professional services.

Thunderstorm activity is now mostly concentrated over the EASTERN SUBURBS of MELBOURNE, and pose mostly a threat of flash flooding at this stage. The LAVERTON cell has weakened in the latest radar returns, however poses flash flooding concerns. Further thunderstorm development is occurring to the west of Melbourne and these will be monitored closely over the next hour for any severe definitions.

WOW! So much excitement around the place tonight. Cars travelling at normal speed are pushing water into shops on Centre Road Bentleigh with 18 inches of water over it.
So sorry to hear about Lily's situation. Hope she is ok.

Looking for hopefully 50 more mm, but I dont have a good feeling about this. Maybe only 10mm here, we look to be in a hole between the huge rains to the north and south of here, not missing by much :(

Maybe I spoke to soon, all this activity is edging north...and then linking up with all the activity from SA as it pushes further north.

Just logged on and only seen this current page. We got 2mm with distant NNE thunder late last evening and another 2mm with promising but short delivered rain this morning.

Got to 27C here this arvo after a 19.5C min overnight and currently 26C and "Hi" % RH.

Not a drip here since this morning till last couple of minutes but currently feels exactly like I've just got back from a days work at Mackay and taking my work boots off, ...... fat lazy drops of rain falling atm with the promise of a pending deluge. A glass of beer creating a puddle under it and a very lazy odd flash of lightning (well that is un-Mackay-like!) far to my SW as I sit here on the back verandah. Heard a distant rumble only once though.

Very blueish low sky with a bit of scud (not much) inching overhead from the due W.

Baro dropping - will catch up with the current situation and do doubt splatter you all with an unbridled burst of verbal diaorreah once I've looked at whats happening around!

Sorry to hear about the garage sis - anything in there? Not a lot happening here yet - light to medium steady rain and a couple of distant rumbles
