lots of heavy rain here, but no thunder or lightning

Caaller to AW from Laverton North reports cars all stopped on freeway, car into tree, car into fence, massive hail, incredible winds, says it felt like mini cyclone.

I don't live far from Moorabbin Airport, under the second "o" on the radar which currently orange on rain since 9am radar - that's 100mm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we've had about 25mm in 20 minutes here in Grovedale and just starting to ease now....

Guys, can anyone help please? I have water running down the inside wall of my dining room and water running out of my light switch. I can't get onto SES (engaged), my husband's not here. What do I do? I'm concerned about the electrical side of things more than anything, and also concerned that water may be getting into the ceiling.

Can anyone help at all? Any advice?

Liliy - turn off power at the swithcboard at the front - should be one for mains power and one for lights

Just looking out the window at the creek and saw some guy walking down the road covering his head, a car stopped (right neigbourly) and asked him if he wanted a lift but i think he would probably have said i'm already soaked throuugh and don't want to get in your car like this so the car drove off and the guy kept walking. I guess what ever was covering his head wasn't really working

ZOMG!!!! Don't drive down Kings Way, just narrowly avoided flooding my car!!!! Wall of water driving on the Bolte Bridge at 100km/hr!! Saw greenage just before it hit and unknowingly core punched that thing - very nasty out there!!

Sorry to hear about your predicament, Lily. Turning the power off is probably the best thing, water and electricity don't mix!

Don't risk just turning of lights just turn it all off lily, safer that way.

Shell, that was happening here, it swirling like crazy and doing the same thing, water was running down the windows like a waterfall

The sky went totally green here before it hit, I though we were going to get pummelled by hail for sure. I've never see a sky go that green without hail before!

Everyone stay safe, that is just severe weather, it's like a monsoon, is still going here. As I said earlier I have never seen it rain like that in Melbourne before.

We didn't get a single bolt of lightning but the lights keep flickering, bloody hell is just going back to white out conditions again, THIS IS VERY SERIOUS. Melbourne can't handle rain like this

Hi Lily...omg are you ok you poor thing? I think the best thing to do to start is to turn off the electricity at the meter, just to be sure, and try and get towels around the bottom of the walls if you have carpet to avoid staining. But the electricity is the important thing, get it off asap.

Lily, go to meter box and flick main power switch to off. You'll loose all power, but at least it will prevent any short circuits.

Lily, keep trying, the call centre (ESTA) probably getting swamped as often happens in these events, however if it's that busy they may not get there for some time anyway.

As Bellarine said, switch the power off if you can, also if water is coming into the roof space in LARGE amounts it can pay to put a bucket out and chuck a hole in the roof with a screwdriver to let the water out before it gets worse.
