Received about 40mm or so in the last 48 hours, felt like a lot more though, forgot to check what yesterdays heavy fall ended up at, only looked today after most had fallen
Got hit by a very heavy storm at Healesville around noon that ended up in us stopping the car for 5 minutes whilst the worst passed. That was the heaviest I saw today and had to laugh, was looking at the BOM forecast around 5pm and the news sites talking about more rain and stuff coming, the radar was clear in the direction it had been coming all day, yet suddenly it starts Pour down outside. After that passes I think its safe and head out to do some work outdoors, it came down even heavier within 5 minutes, they really do keep just popping up out of nowhere tonight, quite good rain

It's raining here a lot heavier than what you would expect for white on the BoM radar. I've noticed a few other people mention this today, can anyone shed some light on why the radar doesn't seem to be reflecting what's happening on the ground at times today?

Apparently it's because it's falling from such a low altitude.
It'd make sense, given the obstructions.

Had around 18mm since monday here so alot less than predicted and I could'nt be happier, seriously did think I would be sandbagging around Carisbrook like with the Sep floods. Dodged a bullet here although not everyone in the state have been as lucky unfortunatly.

Fantastic pano shell, has anyone else got the golden atmosphere happening? It's amazing! It's bouncing off the low cloud cover as the sun sets and has made every thing glow that amazing golden color. It's almost like the air itself has turned golden!

Can I undo a few previous whinge posts with an "un-whinge" post.
Rain has cleared here, since last nights 1-2mm (didnt check gauge this morning), then a decent storm mid arvo with very heavy rain to allow the farmers some run-off to paddock dams which are generally 50-70% full in this area to tally 21.5mm. This was followed by light rain for several hours, then moderate rain for an hour to add another 7mm to a wetted soil. You couldnt design more effective rain if you tried!!!!!!!!!!!
Todays rain should produce no flooding (OK should be a minor to near-moderate lifting off the McAllister which will mostly stay within the banks), Glenmaggie dam to get inflows for easy next 2 weeks (its full and has been spilling lightly all this week), which gives the farmers a continued reset to 100% water right and cheap entitlement to "run-of-the-river" water for the same period. Glenmaggie will stay full/optimum level for the summer tourists, last moderate rain near a week ago (20mm) - so very little water logging for pasture, we are so lucky.
When I return to whinging, it will probably be over a 7 inch Christmas wipe-out
