Will not be good news for some of the orchards in the area, the cherry crop for one is being badly affected, good friend and daughter are in the area again this year for the harvest, the poor crop because of the weather has cost both of them in excess of $1000 so far :|

Downgraded grain crops will cost the state a lot lot more. About time the farmers had some luck, from drought with no crop to a good crop wrecked from heavy rain...

Microburst wrote:Would not be suprised if that report of 112mm or 4.5 inches at Pimpinio is correct, drove from Horsham to Pimpinio through some of the heaviest rain ever, sheets of water on fallow paddocks. Huge stationary storm in that part of the world, has now decaded rapidly.
Easily could be correct. We have seen several storms here in VIC, even in just the past 6 or 7 years that have dumped 100mm in an hour. One at Ballan stands out from memory as well as one at Geelong, can't remember the exact years.

The follow up storms fizzled out as they got here but still some moderate to heavy rain briefly and a rumble or two of thunder.

Places like Gisborne and Sunbury are going to flood big time when we get the massive system that ends this easterly tropical unstable spell. Major creeks in the area keep getting renewed by storms and rain showers. Riddells Creek is back to rapids again this evening.

Yers I think youre correct. Be like the 70s, I hope those involved are stock piling the sand bags. Been so long in the N/E etc a generation has gone by without severe wide spread and prolonged flooding.

Cells are firing some 200km north of Yarrawonga (Griffith) and travelling SSE.
Quite a nice array of storms around Bairnsdale and approaching Lakes!

Today has been impressively unstable. Even at 6am there were huge towers going up and large cells apparent in the local area.

More convection filling in west of Lancefield. This is still not over yet. We have another couple of hours where further development could get going.

Cell weakened a bit as it hit, very photogenic tho, plenty of strikes... no hail but an intense rain rate

5.6mm's up to 9am and another 19.6mm's since then. Most of that came with this afternoons storm. Melbourne water Cranbourne has recorded 33mm's since 9am so must have just missed the heaviest rain at my place. Could see that cell near melbourne about 15 mins ago from here looked like a monster but radar indicates it is weakening now.

Cells currently under NE conditions, however are now approaching the SE seabreeze.
Am expecting it to weaken somewhat.

Can see big convection behind Kinglake going through into the main anvil. Going to be a wild couple of hours, then possibly showery all night as it relaxes a bit.

I had no idea there are people in this area growing Cherries. It so sad to hear that people putting in so much time and money to crops are losing them from this magnificent rain fall.

They are staying in Alex, working for a packer in Yarck. It seems a contradiction, wonderful and hopefully drought breaking rain like this after drought but the rain at this time when so many crops are at or nearing harvesting is causing further hardship.

Solid convection out towards Warburton, expect more cells to fire out there shortly.
