Thanks Rhino. Very blustery weather statewide right now. You are in the minority if you are not getting some strong winds today.

The bays now seeing winds to 100kmh and average winds of 85kmh. They should strengthen further over the coming hour or so and spread over the entire metro area.

Mixing has still yet to happen with Melbourne AP at 13C and most other areas at 18-20C. So once Melbourne AP temps go up, the wind will really start to ramp up.

Stronger winds likely to develop over the coming hour. It is a serious weather day across the state.

Very quiet overnight here.

http://emergencyvic.info/ showing a number of trees down in the Dandenongs and a few in the bayside suburbs which is not at all surprising.

Wind abating here if anything but keeping a close eye on what's to come :)

Wind seems innocuous this morning but should increase during the day with the front nearing and mixing of the low level jet. Currently gusting to 26km/h and 14c.

I don't know what drugs GFS are on, but in Wagga it has 8c dew points for most of the day and peaking at 15c during the late afternoon, which is forcing CAPE to be in excess of 800j/kg. Even EC is too conservative with DPs near 5c over most of Victoria.

I still think we may get some sparks, but only after sunset.

Baro has plateaued a bit here around the 1003hpa mark. Max gust here 45klm/hr (0730) with hill protection to NW. I expect further baro drop/wind shortly.

Very windy here near the northern face of the Dandenongs. Wind is howling through the very tall pines on our northern side. Always very scary as Karl and Shell know. Sorry to hear you lost electricity hillybilly. We still have it here, touch wood.

Wouldn't want to be flying today! Severe turbulence below 5000ft at Melb airport! The clouds here look like a maelstrom! Pressure dropping here again. down to 1002.

Would be awesome flying back from Northern Australia today with a reading of around 185kts at 300hpa! LOL Just a tad windy :)

It is starting to mix to the surface, the temps have mixed out a little from the northern suburbs and as such the winds spiking to 100kmh over land. Should be felt over most areas in the next hour or so.

Storm chances to me are increasing looking at the sky, generally dry and high based, but they will be around ahead of more moisture later today.

Nasty few hours coming!

I'm back in hospital (im fine!) and so frustrated because I can't see anything! Just a little patch of sky and a few mid sized bushes flailing about between multiple storey buildings. Keep posting, you're giving me something to do!

And Crikey, your "springy" comment made me laugh, your posts are always so good to read :)

That's not good Lily. Hospital isn't a great place to be especially with a limited view. All this stuff blowing around in the air wouldn't help you either. Hope you're out soon xox

Hehe, one advantage of these winds today. I drove south down Eastlink this morning to Greens road, and at 100km/h my car was almost completely silent and using only 4.2l/100km due to the tail wind :) :)

The only negative is how many stone chips and scratches I may have picked up from the amount of small debris from trees and sand lying around :(

Apart from a couple of gusts it is not the windiest I have seen it down here in South Dandenong so far.

Rog.

Geez you guys must be copping it all down south there, a couple of bee's blew off here I think and gave us a gust, other than that really very benign. Really quite amazing how moderate the winds are here considering the warnings, up to around 15-20 knts at the moment I'd say.

Rhino. :) :)
