What a day, just drove back from Croydon to Woodend, so managed to follow the storms all the way back. Torrential rail, lightning the works. Stopped off at Calder park as it was just too wild, watched the storm line over Craigeburn, amazing low and rotating, managed to get home and had torrential rain here, lightning, thunder the works, street flash flooded.
Gotta go and check the gauge to see what we had.

You are right about that, we were driving up the calder looking right at it, impressive lightning all around, and err impressive rain and a bit of hail to be in it!

According to news reports, Taylors Lakes and Keilor Downs copped the worst of the hail today - Roof tiles and car windscreens smashed...

38.8mm in a major deluge. Parts of the backyard are under large pools of water and the rain has carved through the drive and gutters etc. as you would expect. A bit of hail as well that was probably 1.5cm-2cm at the largest.
Judging from when my first post was when the heavy rain began the 38.8mm fell in 38 minutes which is fairly impressive.

The SES are satying these storms are the equivlent of March 6th storms 2010.. Also damage in St.Albans and Sunshine Strato with smashed windscreens

There's still crazy towers going up overhead and slightly to the NNW, they are very low based and tropical looking, I don't think I've seen anything quite like this, even with all the intense storms we have had in recent years this setup is probably the most severe and active we have seen.

Back home, unbelievable day....if this isnt a tornado developing i dont know what is, complete with meso...
Was in Coldstream at dads enjoying the pool, got out and starting taking pics as i couldnt believe what i was seeing.
Started like this...
Noitice the rain to the left, it came through and destroyed the joint, smashed the patio..

Just got hit again, small cell just popped up to my NW, certainly going to break 50mm here today alright. Seems pretty unstable out there still.

It is just incessant and continuous lightning and thunder with no break for an hour now, like strobe lighting at a disco. 31mm and rising fast.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:15 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Craigieburn, Doncaster, Greensborough, Preston, Ringwood, Scoresby, the area east of Healesville and the area east of Gisborne.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the east.
They are forecast to affect Hurstbridge, Lilydale, Mt Dandenong, Whittlesea, Yarra Glen and the area south of Whittlesea by 7:45 pm and Healesville and Yarra Junction by 8:15 pm.
Damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.
A tornado has been reported near Fiskville (15km west of Bacchus Marsh). Wind gust of 109km/h recorded 17:42EST at Tullamarine. Golf ball size hail reported at Diamond Creek 17:10EST.
