Great just as it gets close it dissipates and begins moving SSW .. Anyways development now strong on the eastern side which may push into the inner suburbs if it can get past the shield ...

The SE is penetrating N at the moment. I think later we may have a better chance of more sustained rain down here

Wonderful lightning though, every 30 odd seconds...it's fierce just north of CBD but doubt it'll have that intensity when it gets CBD

The owner of a Foodworks in Sunbury says his store's roof just collapsed due to the heavy rain

Absolutely torrential rain from the storm near Sunbury that I just passed through on the train and is now heading towards the CBD. Day turned to night, visibiity went down to almost zero and it sounded like someh hail in among it as well. GFS indicates that the storms should really take off into the evening and overnight but as we know storms are always hard to predict. I am seeing some very active convection out there to the north and overhead.

GFS has the instability hanging around all night in the Central Parts of the state, so there is the chance of storms forming later and moving further south as the SE winds drop out, saying that though, if I could chase I would be heading for the northern suburbs, looks like storms are just going to reform out that way for hours.

Too bad if you hate flying or if you're in a hurry, Mick. Storms have all gone to mush here in Camberwell East.

It's trying really hard to build up over this side of town. Lots of low, heavy cloud and the odd rumble but unfortunately no wet stuff yet. Fingers crossed for later on :)

I'm seeing loads of CGs directly to the north. It's not coming any further south though. Look out Hurstbridge.

Best hailstorm we've had in years here around 5.30, admittedly we don't get that many :), but got some good video and marble sized hail for 5 mins. Only got 4mm but was no thunder just came down in a big heap. Kids loved it bouncing off the ground and the sound on the tin roof, not as much as their dad though... :D :D

Rhino. :) :)

Sitting out on the back deck of our new place in Croydon South and there's been black skies, lightning and thunder sitting to our north for an hour now...barely moving but now seems to be getting louder so hopefully it's crawling closer. It's as still as anything, the birds have all gone quiet all you can hear are the crickets and the thunder!

Sun peaking though here now bit of a shame we didn't get anything to exciting apart from thunder and distant lightening which has ceased now.
