snowfall wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2024 9:22 am Hoping things improve soon for northern areas. Last year, we had a dry start but a wet end to spring. Don't know how likely that is to occur again, but maybe there is some potential with a developing La Niña?

We've been a bit luckier this month after a dry August. 14mm here from yesterday's rain, which takes MTD to 87mm. A big difference between the north and south of the ranges, which is unusual at this time of year.
Our MTD is 5mm. A very dry and gusty Southeasterly today.

Who knows what the rest of the year will bring? It could be like 2007 which had nothing until wild storms in Nov-Dec. Or 2008 which ended up in disaster that summer.

More sub-zero temps across the Wimmera and into the Mallee this morning. That pretty much wipes out most of what was left of this year's already water-starved winter crops.

I don't think city folk realise how much of a disaster this year has been.

Squeezed out 2mm, suddenly the taps turned off at the same time the pacific has lurched towards La Niña (though global warming is screwing up the indices). Guess eastern parts further north are doing better.

Progs look pretty un exciting for the week ahead. Mild to warm nearly dry.
