Some amazing cold records from this lot: -7C is a spring record for Canberra, -4.6C at Keith record spring cold for South Australia. Lots of two, three or four decade records too.

Bit of a flip from August! Winter didn't leave quite as early as we thought. Glad we restocked the firewood last week...

Unfortunately the solar storm peaked on Tuesday during the day then while it was ok at night the cloud rolled in. Still, this solar maximum has another six to twelve months to run. Was talking to one of Europes leading climate scientists who thinks that at least some of the extremes atm, particularly the hot ones, are getting a boost from the increased solar radiation. Basically we are getting the chance to peer maybe ten years into the future with the current rate of warming.

Lots of wacky weather around Oz atm. Record cold at a few sites in the southeast including Keith, Adelaide and Canberra, though the last two have moved to colder spots recently, but still significant. At the same time record high minima in northwest Australia and then on Tuesday small number of record lows under the rain in the north, and also some record September rain totals.

Southeast now waiting on the next front which pushes up today. Looks very wet for western Tasmania. Thins out as you go north and east, then another strong front for Thursday.

Progs toying with a big system for next week.

Severe frost here this morning. Crops are struggling, many likely to be cut for hay.

Not sure about next week's system now.

Thanks for that. Been struggling to find start and finish to these front a day sequences.
