My partner was working in St Kilda today and his car is covered in red dust from the rain lol.

Light shower here this morning but not enough to register in the gauge. Missed the action unfortunately but saw some lightning out towards the east. Wasn’t as windy overnight as I thought it might have been, but definitely a warm one with temp between 22c and 24c for most of the night. 20c was the max for today and currently sunny and 18c.

One rumble at work (Tulla) and a heavy shower for about 15 secs. Rain dust here too! I did notice the dust in the pre dawn sky. An unnatural faint red tinge when the light was too low for a normal red sunrise. I thought then - dust! The giveaway was the same colour where no clouds were.

Another crazy warm to hot return after this quick winter cold 18c weekend swing back to 31c on Tuesday and Wednesday then 36c Thursday 31st.

Back to winter today Was woken by heavy but brief showers about 5am this morning.

Looks quite showery, though these systems can be pretty hit miss and focus on the usual wet spots (think the Otways, outer Yarra Valley, South Gippsland). Thinking most of central areas should see between 2 and 20mm, and north just dribbles. Anticipate about 10-15mm here, which will nudge up what is a pretty lean October total (about 50mm below the long-term average). The city and lots of other spots are looking pretty grim ATM with totals only 20-40% of the long-term average.

Yep looks very hot for October. Some signs it might end with a thundery event. There's a steady build up of convection and moisture over the centre, so some potential if it can hook-up.

Booming rumble here and a barrage of small hail. Quick 2.4mm in the gauge (event now on 10mm).

So much for missing the wind! Absolutely howling here now, along with sideways drizzle and 8C. Another 4.5mm in the gauge though, so that's handy.

Latest short-term outlook by BOM is for mostly average to above average rain for Vic thanks to SAM... not that I would exactly bet my house on these outlooks!

Absolute disgusting pure waste of time filthy windy crap (think I covered it all) out there today.
About the only thing this garbage today will achieve is to further dry out the landscape, stress the plants & potentially damage buildings.

Anyway enough of my whinging, fingers crossed for a proper long awaited rain event at some stage in the not too far distant future.

MotoGP cancelled down the Island today due to excessive wind, caused a pretty hectic crash.

Decent sized hail down here in Cranbourne.

Been splitting the cells this arvo, but just caught a tiny orange one. Barrage of hail up to pea size and about 1mm. Had 4mm since 9am, so ok though not quite what EC was suggesting. Funny that even when we get systems, they seem to struggle to produce widespread rain which I guess is the IOD robbing the moisture.

Watched a couple of very big coldies pass over south of here. Must have been a fair cover of hail around Cranbourne or thereabouts looking at the radar.

Even parts of Bendigo got some decent hail this afternoon. Patchy though.

Incidentally, next weekend could be a bit wet. Hints of 15-20mm possible here.

2.4mm here since midnight, about what I was expecting with this setup. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks with the predicted SSW-induced negative SAM. Not looking forward to the hot weather later next week though.
