Ok...just got home and this my view from my vantage point from here which stretches from the yarra ranges to mount macedon to almost geelong and down south...

Definitely sufficient clearance to the north east. Will be surprised if there are no storms.

People to the west of Melbourne, sorry but i think you will miss out as it is way too cloudy.

Best chance are the Dandenongs i reckon and the more south you go the lower the chance of storms today.

This is purely from my own eyes as the view i have extends over a hundred kma each way. No models.

Oh surprise, surprise! :x :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:
I really hope your wrong there steveco123.

Sun is poking out here in-between the partly cloudy skies. My odd's are about 30-40% for storms to develop in the western boredom zone, so unfortunately I'm not that confident either.

Missed out on that first lot of showers here just a few spits. System total still zero MTD 2.3mm's.
Getting some sunny breaks now and its really humid 27/19 here now.
28/22 in the City.
Good chance of storms later about 80% chance of a storm somewhere in Melbourne later
probably most likely in Northern and Eastern suburbs with flash flooding a chance.
About 50-50 for me I think

I'm liking the sunshine. Humid AF to put it simply. If this doesn't go off it will be a wasted opportunity that's for sure.

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in the
East Gippsland,
North East and parts of the
North Central and
West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.

Issued at 1:05 pm Monday, 20 March 2017.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Corryong, Bright, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Omeo.
Mount Hotham Airport earlier recorded 12.4mm in 20 minutes.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* If you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* Listen to the radio for storm updates
* Switch off your computer and electrical appliances
The next warning is due to be issued by 4:05 pm.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Ok I'm a little more convinced now - just went for a walk with the dog and it is stinking humid out there with the sun out - feels like Feb 2011.

Did ok this morning with about 4mm.

27.6 C with a DP of 22.5. Whew.

Edit: yes some development appearing to the north and east, some of it under higher cloud to the north though?

Okay, now I know what it would be like gardening in Queensland, yuk, no thanks!
There's a patch of Altocumulus over the Dandenongs now but nothing threatening at all, and blue sky moving in from our north - not hopeful.

High humidity does not mean definte storms. After all, it is nearly always humid in qld and they dont get storms 365 days of the year.

But surely something has to go kaboom here today

33 degC outside and office A/C is starting to struggle.

Radar is showing some good development in the Goulburn Valley. And it's heading this way...

Hi Strato I was just thinking before that it was looking a bit dryer, and
the clouds a bit flatter. But i think it is just the in between bit at the moment.
Thw bom man on the country hour, said that they were going to put out
a SWW for tomorrow, for heavy rain and flash flooding, not too heavy i hope.
Cheers Chris

Didn't expect to hit 30 today, plus it's humid as. A cooling storm would be very welcome.
