It'll be interesting to see the latest synoptic chart (due out in an hour or so). Yesterday's forecast chart for 10 am today does indeed have a trough running roughly through the centre of the south-west (north-west to south-east) though falling short of the Melbourne area.

Currently downright chilly in the south-west with 16s along the coast and only just touching 20 quite a way inland at places like Mortlake and Hamilton. Even Aireys Inlet is just 19.

Yeah very interesting. Frankston was 28 earlier but has dropped to 22 now. I wonder if it will creep up abit more north and touch the CBD for some unexpected relief.

And even if it does, inland suburbs can only dream of relief

Looks like it's moving through the entire western suburbs, can see it on the Doppler.

I spoke too soon. CBD down to 30.9 from a high of 35 earlier.

Now this will be interesting...

Updated BOM forecast.
Melbourne area

Hot and mostly sunny. Winds north to northwesterly 25 to 40 km/h tending milder southerly 15 to 25 km/h about the bay, extending inland in the afternoon then becoming light in the late evening.

Hope it does extend inland in the afternoon, I am not that far inland here in Cranbourne but no relief yet just hit 37.0.

What an abrupt and bizarre drop in temps. Was outside and baking, went inside, then when I came back out it was so much cooler. Bizarre because there's barely a breath of wind.

Should also note that it's very muggy.

No wonder it feels muggy Sean; DP in Frankston is 18.4 C (as opposed to about 5 C here...)

Crazy temperature difference between north and south in Tassie at the moment. Hobart is 15.5 degrees and Launceston is 31.5 degrees!!

According to the Weatherzone Facebook page there's a sea fog affecting the coastline, Bellarine Peninsula etc. This fog is impacting the tempartures quite a bit.

Feels like Melbourne's moved to Brisbane. Humid and warm in the city (but like an oven inland). The sea breeze is sat near Rowville and slowly pushing north/east.. thinking it will reach home about 3pm.

Lots of 40s showing up inland :?

Still rising in Cranbourne West. Nudging 38 now.

Must be positioned North-East/South-West if it's near Rowvlle, because otherwise it would have hit here by now.

ANd temps seem to be rising again now. 31 in the city, and 31 on phillip island too

And the temp in the City is on a fast climb to recover from the earlier sea breeze.

I know how you feel. I work in the vicinity of the Scoresby weather station and it is bloody hot (shot up to 40 recently). But my weather station at home says 30 and dropping.

Looking forward to going home soon.

I recorded a high of 40.8°C on my weather station, down to 35°C now, feels lovely and cool! Your old stamping ground certainly was hot.
Was Santa for the nursing home's Christmas party, Santa suits certainly are not cool.
