Found a nice lookout in the Lysterfield area for those storms down to the south. Impressive light show tonight with more still to come!

Had a feeling there'd be another line about 3am. Seems to be the best one yet!
Pretty constant CCs, plus a second cell I can see on it's way through, can't believe how good I've had it the past 24 hours. Seems everything keeps falling into place.

Enjoy the night everyone - especially those with the cameras to do tonight justice!

LOL, 'morning ILS :D Can't believe how absolutely STILL it is. Not a breath of wind, and the air feels so heavy. Big day today in more ways than one I suspect!

This next line of convective showers will probably intensify across bay and rip through eastern subs. Gonna have to get up

HAIL storms and heavy rain have fallen in parts of the state, but there are no reports of major flooding or damage.

SES spokesman Lachlan Quick said they had reports of heavy rain in Waterford, Dargo, in the state's east early Saturday evening.

''They got up to 60mm,'' he said.

''That's going to cause a couple of tricky hours for them, that's a lot of water to come down in a short period of time.''

There were also reports of heavy rain and hail in Warburton shortly before 6.30pm, hailstones in Ballarat after 7pm, and heavy rain near Euroa at about 9pm.

Lightning reportedly struck across Belmont, near Geelong, at about 9.30pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology earlier issued a severe thunderstorm weather warning for parts of central, eastern and northeastern Victoria.

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones were predicted to lash towns including Daylesford, Kyneton, Morwell, Traralgon, Moe, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Omeo.

Meanwhile, Melbourne temperatures were expected to rise to 30 degrees on Christmas Day.

"It's going to be quite a warm, sticky, night, remaining humid," duty meteorologist James Taylor told AAP.

Parts of the state will experience temperatures soaring up to 37 degrees, with with a severe fire danger warning issued for the Mallee, Wimmera and northern country.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected after a change in the afternoon, Mr Taylor said.

Merry Xmas forum folk! Hope you all have a splendid day.

I think the weather gods must have known it was my birthday today. A few minutes after midnight, the storms arrived and we were drenched with moderate/heavy rain. Tons of bangs and flashes too! One CG must have been REALLY close because it it was the loudest I've ever heard - I could literally feel it!!
