great lightning display from Ballarat, went for a drive and sat out past bald hills (north of Ballarat), heaps on CGs and then one way too close so called it quits, drove into Ballarat to some torrential rain.. still a few nice CGs and CCs out there will thunder in the background as I type.. enjoyed my night
Humidity has now reached a point where there are large drops falling here from just white/light blue on the radar. Any storms now, like the line approaching the bay, will probably deliver heavy rain.
Jake Smethurst wrote:Yep definitely off to the bay shortly. But I can also here thunder here in Brighton, probably from the cells Cranny way.
Yes surprised I can see the lightning from the Geelong storm but the sky is
very active in that direction
There may be more in this lot over the bay
Watch out for some warnings to be issued from the Bureau
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in Victoria.
The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
Many flashes from down towards the heads and many more from what has passed pakenham, they might have a rare set up down there ala 1992 that could last a long time.

The annual BOM work experience kid has made his/her big call, a tad early IMHO, can someone save the radar for tonight.
The lightning has not stopped at all, still going off, and as you can see on the rader the storm line has not deflated at all, should be interesting for those who stay up for it, as for me, cricket is over, I'm tired, cool breeze .. aah - finally. Hope you guys get to take some nice pics, bay should allow for great distance lightning shots.
edit: Yep dead calm now, still lightning lighting up the sky and I can see stars out the other side so it's a thin but very sparkling cell, just remember to open those door's/windows to take advantage of the cool wind burst-it won't last long, I can feel the humidity coming back even now.
The bay certainly provided awesome lightning! Plenty of CG's and CC's, few crawlers as well. Lightning was every few seconds! Still going now but alas I have work in the morning. Nevertheless I think I got a couple of pictures and even some video of some of them Activity should continue overnight for a little longer yet, and then chance of further activity tomorrow!

Just been down Elwood beach again for the last hour - amazing lightning on the other side of the bay, some really long lasting CG flashes -slow and pulsing flashes over a few seconds. Awesome.
Cycled back home just as a few low rumbles started - but think there's not really much rain with these "storms" - they're all mouth and no trousers!
What a fantastic evening, some magical memories that's for sure - very atmospheric..
Looks like temperatures are on the rise again - heading back towards 30 at Avalon and many other locations ticking up after the showery interlude. Tomorrow is going to be insane!
Some fantastic lightening out there tonight, unfortunately I was at home. Would have loved the view of it all from the Bay.
Although I did take some pictures of the action here in Wyndham Vale (35KM South West of Melbourne), looking south towards Geelong way.
(My first ever attempt), any tips on taking better storm shots?
