It's now got 44 for Melbourne tomorrow according to the 7 day forecasts section, as at 4:12pm. 42 for Friday, not sure if that's an increase on this morning or not.

Total Fire Ban has already been declared for the whole state for tomorrow, and it goes without saying it's almost certain to be the same Friday. Fire danger forecast has increased to severe for us (North Central) tomorrow, and extreme on Friday.

Have cold shower, stand in front of fan - evaporate, repeat ...

Hot town, living in the city, back of my neck getting dark & gritty...
Not sure what you guy's were saying about Geelong but I have not seen any rain or showers, I did hear some remote rumbles early this morning, but anything else that you see is just a myth or its north of us.

edit: That Geelong Racecourse station is not a good indicator of what it's really like in Geelong, it seems to get the ocean grove/coast seabreezes alot more due to its location and proximity to the coast, its similar to Moolap - alot more breezy. For example on the first day of the heatwave - Tues, it was actually 39C (it went up 7C in half an hour) and the station was still saying 31.5C, we all went home from work got back and went, nah, its definately not 31 out there .. lol, and that's my take on that station, not real/correct values for the region.

3 mm here from a short, sharp storm - feels wonderful! Looks like another cell about to hit.

Still a risk for showers and thunderstorms tonight. They should continue well into the night!

Storms are giving my area a wide berth. Nothing at all here.
Reached 41.1c here today but now with the southerly winds its down to 34.1c.

well the storms keep going past, the one earlier just made a few distant booms and a few splats then evaporated

seems they keep redeveloping then evaporating, but they sure are trying!

It does appear to be getting more active as the sun goes down and temps drop a little. Last night it really took off about 1-2 hours after sunset and then rapidly fizzled out after midnight. It will be interesting to see if we get the same pattern happening tonight.

Temperature has fallen to exactly 40 here, after a max of exactly 43.0 today. We have isolated storms to the north, south, and west now. I sure hope they've got a fair bit of rain in them.

well again its all staying north and to the west from melb and suburbs, the temp said it was 31 in melbourne, is there a sea breeze stopping the storms firing here

what are your thoughts on whats up towards maryborough coming down this way later, seems cooler out tonight than last night at the same time

Very hot and dry today and I am worried. If we get fires on Friday then the change there could be a disaster. The local firebug along the frankston between carrum and seaford line was at it again today by the looks of things, thats about 5 in the last few months. I hope every copper in the state is out on the back roads this week.

Almost a storm in Mentone about 4 today, a slight dip in the temp but Virga was all that happened.

BOM reckons things will cool off about now but then climb back up later on tonight, I trust them on this one. That slow creeping heat will pool over us.

Ive got 34 inside and 28 outside atm but its dead calm and I cant seem to get the aor moving from outside to inside. High flows to low yes?

Hey Wolfcat, great pic, Im glad someone had the energy to go out. I checked the temp at 2.30am and there were some really good dry creepers above me and one spot of cool rain, then I slept until 4. Im going to start at 6.30 tomorrow so If I am up at 4 again I can cover my losses and maybe get a nice sunrise pic.

had a nice little storm at knock off time delivering 4mm. Crazy amount of lightning, my better half saw lightning start a fire on her way home near McCain foods. Another line is inbound hope it doesn't do what happened last night: graze us.

If the development of the cell near Moorabbin is anything to go by then convection is starting to develop closer to the Melbourne area currently. I'll go outside and have a look.

Edit: Can see the cell at Moorabbin, but not sure what to make of the rest. Definitely unstable though.

Around 40C again here today and the next two days will probably get to 41C. :| I doubt we've had more than a handful of 40C days here since the beginning of European settlement, that's how significant this heatwave is locally.

Incredible that every year is smashing records now with these ridiculous heatwaves. It's not just the intensity of the heat that's changing, it's the overall patterns, eg. the late monsoon, more stubborn blocking patterns, etc.

I am noticing the heat bank that builds up over central Aus is shifting much further southwards than it used to as we progress through the summer. It's not necessarily over the top 850Ts but the fact they are extending down here for days at a time is the key to all this.
