Has anyone had a look at the National map with lightning tracker on Weatherzone? The front stretches in an arch from Hobart, through Uluru and all the way to Carnarvon :o :o :o

It is epic!!!!!!

Very sporadic lightning here... but some RIPPER forks and BIG flashes to be sure!! :D :D :D

Otherwise, a rather gentle, gusty rainband/storm front passing over atm :)

The radar on the weatherzone seems off to me, right now I'm supposedly under quite heavy rain - dark green with globs of yellow, yet it's very light. Then other times it's been absolutely pouring and the radar showed just patchy light green. Who knows...

Scored some nice structure north of Craigieburn tonight as the line came through. Seemed an embedded cell was drawing in inflow from the north east just as the sun was going down as inflow streamers were evident to me in the fading light. It then transitioned into a tightly curved shelf structure with occasional scud funnel under the leading edge as it approached me. Got some nice pics of the structure with lightning illumination under it and just a hint of sunset. Sitting near Donnybrook watching occasional lightning now.

Oh, and yeah I also noticed that epic line of lightning returns that stretched the entire continent - very cool.

I like that ! :) "Rather gentle" is not quite how it is up here, I can barely hear myself talk over the noise of the rain and wind at the moment. 11mm and rising very fast in the last 20minutes.

Lol yeah I know Geoff... I apologise for that, I added that comment when I thought the storm had run out of puff, but over the last 30-40 minutes there's been some quite heavy rain and much stronger winds, in addition to some more forked lightning! :D

An okay event for now. Will keep things ticking along...

But I have to vent (and I'm sorry for annoying anyone in the process):

I hate it when the BoM forecasts "Tonight:Rain (Or scattered showers). Tomorrow:Rain clearing early afternoon".

Nearly every time they forecast this, the rain clears much earlier. Eg tonight. This has happened so many times in the last few years when it's obvious it will be over within a couple of hours!!!!

I can almost guarantee that there won't be anymore rain tonight (as in a rain band), except a shower or two.

The AWF forecasts are much more precise and accurate.

There. Done. Calming down now.Apologies

Will be interesting to see where that rain around Port Augusta ends up, steering winds will be to the SE overnight so maybe thats what BOM's talking about, and is developing as well. BOM has rain areas in the mallee district too tommorow so considering there's no rain up there at the moment it's still in the development phase I'd say. :)

Rhino. :) :)

Excellent shots Messo, Tizand Hamlan... the first one could be the cover of a Holden brochure...quality.

Missed the whole thing at the acmi theatre for MQFF opening but 8 mm in the gauge in Elwood.

Now for the NE..

Plenty more to come yet, rain band now forming to our NW.

Remember of course, the atmosphere is unchanged, so expect the same today.

The forecast was wrong because the models were wrong, it's developing a lot slower than expected.

Good falls about, 20mm generally for central and 40mm or do for the NE.

Another repeat of those totals not out of the question today.

Great point stevco I have noticed this as well, it's not good enough - especially if people are planning their day and write off a morning thinking there will be a big persistent rain band, when likely there will be a couple of showers or nothing (not saying this is right all the time but agree In most cases over past few years it has been)

Up to 20mm rain second band not far away.I know we need a little rain at intervals but wouldn't mind sharing some of this with those who need it.It is as good as springtime here,
we have a big problem with milk fever in our beef cows.

Flood problem getting a whole lot worse through the north east..easily another 40mm today.

Second rain band forming and stalling, should be wet through Central as well. Band should intensify as it comes out of the radar hole at Stawell.

Thought I was having delusional flu inspired dreams when I heard rain last night. Got up to find.... rain! haha only light but can here it on the roof and sort of good as it absolves all guilt of not working and sitting inside all day!
