Cleaning up form a very successful Xmas Eve dinner for 15 and going outside I noticed a few flashes to the south of here. Very oppressive outside though not as hot as the kitchen has been today :D

Merry Christmas to you all and here's hoping for some good storm activity tomorrow - I will be on top of the hill at Mornington all day so should have a nice vantage point

What a day for parts of Victoria. Certainly was better for central areas compared to yesterday, so was not a bludge day at all!! Still some big thunderstorms occurring across the state as observed on radar, very quick development near Geelong. Nocturnal cooling is taking affect tonight, so showers/storms will remain possible across all areas overnight. Flash flooding a very big concern if something pops up overnight, along with large hail and damaging winds also.

Reached 29 degrees here today with partly cloudy skies, highest DP of 19 for today. Currently 21 degrees with a rising DP again after we a drier seabreeze late this afternoon. Had convection all day but did nothing really. Looks like some showers over the southwest now, might get a shower or two, even a storm. Worth watching the radar for tonight.

All the AWF forecasts have been updated here: http://www.theaustralianweatherforum.com/main.html, including the thunderstorm chart for tonight's expectations and also the audio briefing!!

Ridiculous lightning frequency to our North. In a 10 second period, saw 7-8 individual lightning bolts! About one every 1.5 seconds.

It has just exploded across the bay. Too high or too low on the map. The law of averages would dictate that it should be at the right height on the map. :P
@The_FishmanAU is all I need to say.

extremely muggy out there, i noticed as a car went by there is a very thick fog out there from the moisture in the air.

can see some of the lightning towards geelong way, that popped up out of nowhere so who knows where else they may do so tonight, obviously the sea breeze isnt a problem like earlier

Suprised by the amount of flashes from the cells east of Geelong.. Been in the backyard and its high intensity to my south, seen around 4 beauty CGs in under ten minutes.. just wish it was further north, tanks are empty after the young fella left dads tap on! Shouldve had the camera sitting off North Shore or Avalon

AWF SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ADVICE
Please use official warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology for professional services.

Thunderstorm activity continues to affect parts of Victoria this evening.

A severe thunderstorm has been identified on weather radar to the east of Geelong. This thunderstorm is capable of producing mainly flash flooding and QUEENSCLIFF and POINT LONSDALE are advised of this within the next 30 minutes. It is moving southeast and will shortly also move over the bay region.

Lightning frequency is also very high this evening with thunderstorm activity across the state.

Advices will be issued intermittently tonight.

Gret pics of the warby cell guys, saw it from work but had to keep cooking. Hoping for something like that tomorrow after 4 when the crowds have been fed and the pub is closed.
How are we looking for tomorrow, anyone picking storms?

Now, about the first strike in Geelong. We were just sitting infront of the tele looking at the carols when I said to my wife, "Would be nice to be a bit further north today, nothin much weatherwise goin on here tonight....!!" When BANG - simultaneous lightning and the loudest crack of thunder I have ever heard in my life. The house shook! For someone that loves weather and loves storms to nearly need some clean undies speaks for itself.

Very weird though.... The power went off first then this all happened about 3-5 seconds later. Then after another 10 sec or so the power came back on. Once I calmed down and it looked reasonably safe to go outside, It took me nearly 10 minutes to find my dog. Chardy the lab was beside herself, shaking like a leaf and had buried herself in some bushes it was very very hard to find her. Anyway I'll say this, when you know its coming its very very cool and exciting but when something like that happens out of the blue on your doorstep it scared the living **** out of me.

Merry Christmas anyway guys.

Wow. What a belter down here at Westernport. Massive and repeated CG's followed by cracking thunder. The powers gone shaky a few times but still hanging in there touch wood. Very heavy rain now as well. What a ripper.
