Closing in rapidly here, it has got very dark, very suddenly. Looking really menacing with almost a full sky of scud forming.

I am sure we will find out soon enough with a few people on here from the region. Convection still exploding northwest of here in the last bit of clear air. I think it will certainly become more colourful shortly on the radar!

Winds are tending NE here so starting to see some inflow winds into the storm from certainly AWS sites.

Seb keep us posted on the hail threat please. Good luck and enjoy!!! :)

That sounds promising there Seb!! :P

Showers building out of mid level cloud deck over the eastern suburbs currently Some of these may become a little thundery as we go along in the next hour.

Starting to build a bit of a green tinge to the SW. Very low based scuddy cloud too appearing over the houses.

Starting to think Melbourne will get the best action from the top of the squall line. The other part of the line seems to be going over the bay.

Can see small amount of lightning in the distance and I can just make out thunder.

Evening everyone.
Thought i would finally bite the bullet and take this awesome evening to make my first post.
Not good with anything technical but pretty excited with what's in store tonight.
Am hoping that cell near ballan intensifies and pushes through further east to Bayswater.

Hi Melsy and welcome. Don't make it your last :)

Well I thought we were drying out.....

Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra,
Dandenong And Bunyip)
Issued at 5:19 pm EDT on Wednesday 6 October 2010
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

Since 9am Wednesday rainfall totals of up to 23 mm have been recorded in the
Greater Melbourne catchments. Further rainfall totals of around 30 mm have been
forecast for the rest of Wednesday.

Catchments in the Greater Melbourne area are still wet as a result of rainfall
during the previous several months. Storm activity that has occurred during the
day is expected to continue into this evening. Due to the intensity of the
expected rainfall there is the potential for some stream rises, particularly in
upstream tributaries, and the possibility of minor flooding.

Ok well the line that has just passed south of carrum I went and had a look at. Definate roll cloud on the leading edge of what is a sheet with some scud. A MUSHROOM began to form but faded. No rain, plenty of warm wind. This is all vey low, a layer on top and sun through that. I took a digicam that I bought on the way home for work, a pice of junk compared to DSLR, had to use the screen, couldnt tell when it took a pic, couldnt disable smiley feature????? aaHHHH bad mistake. Dont have cable for it or a SD reader so will have to wait till tomorrow, but I think I got a couple before it got too dark.

Taken at Smythes Creek at 6:06 today, facing roughly north. So the line is running NW-SE... What do you all think?? :D

Incredible, 20.5 mm in less than 30 minutes, marble-sized hail too. I've never seen the radar do what it just did. Like typhoon I was certain the storms had slid south of us with barely a drop, next thing they're back building to the north with dark reds where a couple of loops previously there was nothing. If someone saves the loop over the last hour I'd love to see it.

Will clear in the west for a ripper sunset if you can look toward the CBD>

Quoting my trusty ol' rain gauge ...."that beast of a storm produced 21mm in 20 minutes here in Ballan".

Splendid :D
