Nice bow showing on radar with the storms approaching here and back building on the western edge as well. As Johnno said, expect these storms to develop further overnight, it's a night time scenario this time around with development occurring with cooling, basically thanks to the upper trough with the cool upper levels passing over and general lift associated with that.

Yeah that blob approaching from the west looking good from the beach just before sunset. Amazing experiencing 25/21/82 ...just love it. 25mm here so far...hoping to double that by this time tomorrow.

Torrential rain here again, if anything the radar seems to be underestimating intensity.

It's all slipping south of here. Bizarrely no thunder or lightning at all.

GFS has turned the entire forecast on its head with widespread 10-25mm extending right back into western VIC and the heaviest rain 8pm-midnight and mostly fine before the mid afternoon. It looks to me like a moisture linkage with the TC which wasn't really there in the last run as well as perhaps a later passage of the front itself.

Getting the torrential tropical style stuff now. It's been heavy for about 5-10 minutes so a few more mm at least. In fact just easing up now. I just got a narrow band so anyone that gets under a solid area of this stuff will get some flash flooding.

Struggling to believe these cells aren't lightning active. I'm standing on top of Forest Hill Chase got a perfect view to my west and absolutely nothing! What a fickle hobby this storm chasing is, shame I love it so much!

Still 100% humidity - no rain, if there was any I would hear it on flat aluminum roof easily, the front was always coming later on wednesday - 10pm or later, considering the stalling of recent troughs its not surprising that other things are slowing down too, when you also consider the multiple extreme's of weather going on around the country - nsw floods, nw cyclone - all these play a factor in the speed of a cold front approaching from the sw too, until the NE flow and related high near NZ moves the cold front will not progress much, which should happen as we go into tomorrow.

Looking ahead at the predicted barometrics you can see another high form and the same cycle of NE flow continue early next week, very strong late summer cycle with high pressure systems well south of aus, not uncommon. The more rain the land gets, the cooler it will get eventually breaking the heating cycle and then we go into autumn.

So we've had one really good cooldown over last night for central & eastern vic in terms of rain, another tomorrow at sometime, more cool air, showers, more heat but barely over 30 if that, last night was the real start of the change where before it was relentless heat.

Anyway hope the people in Melbourne and surrounds get a quencher tonight. :)

Went down to the bay to get some shots - but no lightning despite the encouraging radar :(

It was a lovely night though?

Received another 2mm's from a brief heavy shower at about 6.30am this took my 24hr to 9am total to 16mm's.
This makes a total of 41.6mm's in the last 48 hours and is my highest 48 hour total since 72.8mm's fell in the 48 hours to 9am on 22.06.12.
MTD now 66.6mm's and YTD 69.6mm's.
Hopefully a few more mm's later today.
