Emergency Alert
This is an emergency alert message issued for the Upper Murray
above Lake Hume

Date: Friday 15th October 2010
Time: 12 midday
Issued by: Wangaratta Flood Incident Control Centre

A new risk has arisen for residents and businesses in the Upper Murray.

The Wangaratta Flood Incident Control Centre has received advice from ground observers that the river is currently rising rapidly and is already at yesterday’s peak in some areas.

According to Bureau of Meteorology the estimated peak is expected to reach approximately 1.3 metres HIGHER than yesterday’s high water level.

This will mean that more local roads and bridges may be affected and buildings close to the river may now be inundated (flooded) or isolated (cut off) by this higher water level.

In some areas this will be similar flood height to the 1975 flood level.

Residents along the Upper Murray are advised that areas next to the Murray river or adjoining streams could be affected by this floodwater any time from now.

In the local area, major flooding can result in:
• stock isolation in low lying paddocks
• Road closed at Bringenbrong
• Water over road at Cudgewa North Road
• Water over road at the Bridge below the Tintaldra Rec Reserve
• Along the Cudgewa Creek
o Water over road at Germans Lane
o crossing closed at Jewels Rd. Bridge Road
o Water over road at Leakes Bridge

Prepare for Evacuation
Warning for Walwa
Date: Saturday 16th October 2010
Time: 16:30
Issued by: Wangaratta Flood Incident Control Centre

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted that a flood level of 7.7 metres will be reached at Walwa around midnight tonight.

This is an Emergency Warning for residents of the Walwa township to prepare to evacuate your property to higher ground. The risk area extends along the Upper Murray from Tintaldra to the start of the Hume Dam. The river continues to rise to a height of 7.7 metres.

Residents along this part of the Murray may see inundation at any time.

The relief centre is the Walwa Bush Nursing Hospital, corner of Hanna and Main Sts Walwa.

If you delay your evacuation roads may be congested or closed and you could become trapped and need to be rescued. Remaining in flooded areas is dangerous and may place your life at risk.

When you evacuate you may go to the house of a friend or relative in higher areas.
