Few showers down here this morning. Heavy near the mountain but just dribbles on the flats.

Waiting for tomorrow’s front which is exceptionally cold. Best shot of cold air here for a couple of years. Cold enough for sea level snow. Unfortunately I’m away for the weekend so will miss it, so will need to wait on the family to report.

It’s fizzes a bit as it pushes north, but still expect a bit around Trentham, Macedon etc. Looks a bit warm for the Nongs. They are now three years since it last properly snowed there which is a record.

Another light frost this morning. We've had a few this week. But the lack of rain is very concerning. Maybe 10-15mm in the next 10 days if we're lucky. More likely is 2mm.

Aurora Australis was going off last night before 8pm. This IP camera in the Southern suburbs of Bendigo captured it:

What constitutes proper snow? Just falling or settling? It's been a long time since decent snow on the ground at Mt Macedon. Not since 2020 has there been a covering worth getting the camera out for. Still flurries every winter but it won't settle.
Raining here now, freezing cold. Just below 4° after a low of 3.5°.

Some cold, heavy showers with ice in them here so far, but nothing really snow-like yet, with a minimum of 4C. Assume colder air is expected, with BOM's Central District forecast this morning dropping the snow level to 500m asl (vs 600m asl in yesterday afternoon's forecast)?

FWIW I record proper snow falling, as well as snow settling, although even that is a bit arbitrary - does snow on outdoor furniture count vs snow on the ground? Not sure!

Here's a blast from the past from 26 September 2020. No doubt about that fall :)

I always qualify it as snow falling with/ or without settling.

We just had a few flurries about ten minutes ago.
Blink and you miss it. No settling.

Good question. I’d say something that you can be confident it was snow, and ideally at least a few good few bursts even if they only last second. Often you get those days when it’s 2 or 3C, maybe even 4C and you see icy raindrops or graupel. Those types of bursts that make it into the news as snow in Springvale, but probably weren’t :D

Looks like snow line in tas is currently around 300m. Looks like it settled to around 300m earlier above Grove and Cygnet. Showers have been a bit hit and miss, so bit underdone given how cold the airmass is.

At home our max so far is 7.0C, but could spike this arvo if the sun comes out. Hopefully we can sneak under 10C. 2mm for the past 24 hours or so. Quite a few sleet and graupel showers but not snow with temps dipping to about 4C at sea level in the heavier showers

Decent burst of proper snow just now. Briefly dropped to 1.5C - not bad for 12.30pm! Briefly settled on the trampoline, but not sure that counts :? Going in the records anyway.

Lovely - can't argue with that :).

Every cell passing over us now is delivering snow, but not quite lasting long enough to settle properly. Hopefully we get a sustained fall before the moisture runs out later today.

It's been snowing solidly here for two hours.
One cm settled and down to 0.4° now. Impressively cold for September.

Very nice. Think I'll have to settle for this dusting:

Our son sent us vid of flakes at Romsey but not collecting on the ground. Around 6pm it was -4c at 2000ft above Tulla (don't know if ASL or AGL). I did see snow clouds at that altitude above Wallan, but nothing (snow) reached the ground. Was 5c at 90% humidity so too warm and moist.

Some great pics and vids of snow at Mt Macedon above around 930m.

We had our coldest day sine the third week of July. No day in August was colder than yesterday.
Min was 0.2° max was 4.4°.
We have also had a remarkable 20 hours in a row of temps either at 1° or just below. The last time I remember that happening was in August 2014
It dipped below 1° just before 1pm yesterday and has only just risen above a little while ago.

Fantastic seeing all the snow pics. What a great weekend. Mostly hail and sleety showers here on Saturday, but we had a couple of brief bursts of snow mixed in during the heaviest showers. Wouldn't count it as proper snow, but it certainly showed how cold the air was.

We drove up to the top of Mount Macedon for a quick Look. Definitely a good covering there at the time, around mid afternoon.

Anyway, 8mm all up on Saturday. It's still pretty cold, with a cold wind. Down to 3c overnight. But it all starts changing from tomorrow as we swing into a northerly...

Plenty of hail and graupel for us on the weekend but no snow. Saw some photos around the 150m mark near Hobart which looked like snowflakes, so almost but perhaps not quite a sea level event.

Been plenty of showers but ranges have been really shredding them. Just 6mm at our place for the last 72 hours but near 100mm for ares west of Huonville.

Clearing now for a day, then bother strong front for Wednesday.

This westerly pattern sticks around til about this time next week. Models showing some pretty extreme scenarios for next week with a huge trough with cold air to the west and really warm air to the east. Northerlies going all the way to Darwin. Guess will see if that one sticks.
