Well we had another lot of storms build over us this evening and again they went east to drop there rain. Got to 44 here today but with more humidity. Storms built quickly and were very lightning active. Have heard reports of grass fires starting so that's not good.
According to the local news up here tomorrow is ment to be the worst fire day here in ages. I can't work it out when the humidity will be up a bit and a westerly wind. I guess the temp will be high, predicting 41 for here, but surely Saturday was a worse day with 3% humidity, 46 degrees and a northerly that gusted right through the morning.
Media beat up??
Cheers
Media Beat Up for sure!!!! Only reason why they say that is because the 'capital' of Australia -Sydney- is going to possibly get to 43. As soon as something is possible to happen there, the whole country is in trouble according to them.
Well channel 7 just proved it, so much talk of Sydney and next to nothing about anywhere else.
The wind here this morning is very strong with it being over 30 already. It's coming from the west ATM so hopefully it stats that way and doesn't swing to the nth.
Any fires in this area that got going last night from lightning were put it out thankfully.
What are we expecting on the change? Storms?
I see the trough is ment to hang over us till late into the nite.
33.8 @ 3pm dropped to 33.5 @ 3.05pm.
woke to 99% Hunidity to now 11%..
I loved this morning, overlooking the city with the instability, could see some rain falling, close to Mammatus looking clouds.
but took every oportunity to get some work done then whamo this change.. yukk..
The Snake Valley fire west of Ballarat is throwing up a huge plum of smoke which is clearly visible on the radar.
Very windy here but temps dropping after a high of 27 C; looking a lot cooler for the next couple of days and maybe even a shower or two about. (I won't count the 12 drops from this morning's 'system'!)
Very weird weather, I think the heat from inland is aloft and mixing with the southerly to create the hunidity, a wet southerly wind all day, pretty unusual for melb.
Just had an 80kph gust dowm here on the bay, the sun is out, nothing threatening here.
Jet black to my north, between the mt dandy towers and altona way.
That record got me thinking about the weather of the 70s in Melbourne. It was cold and it was hot and it was variable. I remember very hot spells and very cold spells, the washing freezing on the line regularly more than it does now, so overall my memory is that it was colder then than now. Who knows, the drought might be back.
The 70s was the last time the what was traditional melbourne cold wet weather bagging by the rest of the country was in action. Until the 80s we were considered as cold and wet as tasmania. Its odd that the general view of our local climate has changed so much in less than a generation.
Wish we would get some drizzle here, Currently sitting on 19 consecutive days without recordable rain.
This is the most I have recorded at my place since we had 24 consecutive rain free days that ended on 19.01.08.
Not a record That I want to break.
Certainly has cooled off now down to 16.8c here.
Got woken at some unearthly hour by heavy rain, and been up ever since watching this wonderful S/W stream of showers training over us for hours. Just looked in the Nylex and found 9mm to my amazement. Temp is a very cool 9.6c and everything is good and soggy again.
(Edit 6.50am showers getting heavier).
Bloody hell Geoff looks like your going to have one of those years again............wet. Great to hear you guys down sth are getting something at least, actually looks showery here but nothing yet, damn cold though.
Quite breezy yesterday evening and cracked the 30km/h mark on the AWS for the first time since it was setup in early Dec. Enough breeze to knock over a tree in Wonga Park at any rate.
2mm in the manual gauge and same reported by the AWS, from a few quick showers earlier this morning.
Temp has been consistently dropping and now at 13.4c, so lovely to be "cold" for a change and briefly back to wearing two layers before the inevitable but brief return of the heat on Friday.
Just noticed WZ showing 10-20mm for Sunday, will dig into the models to see where that's coming from
Rain??? Whats that?? Been that long since we have had any here. Nothing during the past 24 hours in the great western basalt desert. The drought continues....
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
