The BOM quotes 44.5C as the hottest November temperature recorded in Victoria on it's extremes tables page so they must think the 45.0C is not viable, so I'm going with the record being beaten by at least 0.5C so far

Wow look at GFS, things have changed a lot! Tomorrow is now the day to go storm chasing if you want to. GFS has taken a lot of storm activity away from Saturday's forecast and moved it to Friday's forecast. So now it's Severe Friday! http://forecasts.bsch.au.com/stormcast? ... #stormcast" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also just had a quick look at the Mildura Post Office site which recorded the 45.0C in November and it also recorded 50.7C in 1906. I think we can safely say to disregard any extreme figures from that site. Anyway it's all a moot point now, Mildura has just now maxed out at 45.4C
After a slow start, Avalon is looking the likely place to hit 40 in and around Melbourne, meanwhile Im stuck at work while the rest of the workers went home at 1130am after it hit 35c!!

Believe it or not I still have memories of Nov 17, 1980 (family holiday in the Riverina - spent in the motel swimming pool). If we have anything like the summer of 1980/81, we'll all be toast by this February....
Thanks for that guys, and yes, the Old Post Office (now O'Malleys irish Pub) is right in town and even then would have been recording temps somewhat higher than the airport site some 8km away because of the microclimate of surrounding buildings. Anyway, record or not, its bloody hot. Have just given 25 or so distressed magpies a cool drink under the trees!
The snake is still resting under the verandah but its not getting a drink!!
Some big clouds shooting up to our west and south here, a small area of intense rain is growing east of Colac, and looks like another cell forming west of about Meredith.
Edit: BOM Ballarat forecast update just added 'possible storm' for this evening.

You have a pet snake? lol
Anyway Melbourne got hotter than Adelaide today! Adelaide's top: 37.9 degrees, Melbourne's top so far: 38.7 degrees. That means Melbourne was 8 degrees hotter than Adelaide.
Some entertaining viewing has been that of electricity prices and power demand today. Latest estimate for this evening is $12500/MWh (about 60x what we pay!). That compares with $2000/MWh on Black Saturday... http://www.aemo.com.au/Electricity/Data ... -Graph-VIC" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It wouldn't surprise me to see some load-shedding soon.
