Getting very dark outside all of a sudden... hard to believe, at this time last night I was preparing to photograph the sunset lol
Radar shows what appears to be a line of showers and thunderstorms extending between the Heads and King Island... wish more good convective activity would develop further north around Melbourne
After near perfect spring weather here on the weekend, today was an ugly day of high winds, high temps and raised dust. Also a tonne of pollen in the air from Cypress and Pine trees here on the farm. Not my sort of weather at all.
About an hour ago it looked like it was going to let rip with a massive thunderstorm but all we got was more wind, more dust and 3 drops of rain.
Hope we return to something a bit more reasonable soon.
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m
Work- "Bolobek" at Macedon. 430m
Maxed out at 27.6 this arvo and down to 22.9 now - breezy here but no really strong gusts. Rising quantities of dust and smoke in the air perhaps from a fire at Shady Creek a bit further east mixed with some goose who is doing a burnoff on a nearby property.
Amazing wind gusts just now in Seymour!! Exciting stuff! Just a few raindrops, though as is the case elsewhere, mostly virga. Drops that are reaching down to my height are not even showing up on the timber landing out the back
a pleasant although windy day here today, reached 25, sunny for the vast majority of the day, high cloud increase and thickened with virga on and off since about 3:30pm. Still warm and blowy not expecting much rain let alone a storm.
Watch out. The colder westerly wind has just struck here.
14.6 deg c at horsham and kyabram 27 deg c. Thats a decent temp gradient 13 deg C difference over 150 km ?
Wild gusts kicking in
Shepparton just had a 100km/hr gust.
Some lightning strikes on this wind change line atm on stormtracker Nwest of dunolly.
The only rain band developing in that area is west of Birchip atm. So probably around there atm
Not a drop of that virga hitting the ground here yet
Shocking day today, extremely dry, the air was thick with pollen, temperatures were high but in line with OCF, BOM went 1C too high as I suspected.
Nothing record breaking. Bendigo actually got to 31C on the 30th September 1961 at the prison site which only goes back to 1957 anyway. The current airport site only goes back to 1991. It was definitely right up at the higher end of temperatures that you expect at this time of year though through the state. Not yet as bad as 2006 though and the 2009 temp pretty much takes the cake (even if it was just for one day and the rest of the month was cool and wet).
There should be a fair bit of rain around tonight but nothing heavy. As you can see it is mostly, if not all, behind the change. I have seen this many times where we have had extremely dry air ahead of a front in northerlies but then moisture floods in with cooler westerlies bringing in oceanic air and rain from stratiform cloud gradually develops.
There should be about 2-10mm for most of central with some falls closer to 15mm in some locations.
Just heard via my sources that a tree is down across the Healsville-Koo Wee Rup Rd, Yellingbo which is just north of the Cockatoo area - due to the strong winds in that area.
BOM forecast looks plain bizarre for the week. That's all I'll say about that. A big band of patchy rain approaching from the west and there could still be some isolated storms in amongst it. Dew points are into double figures with the rain band so moisture shouldn't be a problem as that passes over us.
Some Lightning to our far west of Dunolly . Looks to be out Horsham way. Temp at Horsham now 13 deg C dew point 9.4 deg C. Not raining. Its the sort off stuff that starts fires in dry places.
Just as well the grass is still very green around here. Can't say the same for the dry whipstick forests though
Thank goodness the winds have dropped off here atm
