Cruising towards 39 degrees at Moorabin...will we touch 40?!

Yes wind has swung around to WSW here and temp dropped from 37.8c to 35.5c.
Not the main change though - some isolated small cells showing up on radar to the west SW and NW.

A line appears to be going up Echuca/Ballarat/Colac. Building rapidly. Radio has sporadic discharges.

Our power has been off for the last hour (thank goodness for smart phones). Still in northerlies here but change must be very close now.
Can see convection showing behind Mt Dandenong to the north now.

North East Forecast Districts.
Issued at 11:45 am Sunday, 20 December 2015.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds with gusts to 100 km/hr in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour, Castlemaine, Kyneton and Wangaratta.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home.
* stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* listen to the radio for storm updates
* switch off your computer and electrical appliances
The next warning is due to be issued by 2:45 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at http://www.bom.gov.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Big drops here...wind picking up a bit, very fast moving cells maybe one rumble

Just side swiped by a cell - big drops. Exploding now.. not clear whether it will get us though as we need something around Eltham/Epping way. It looks very unstable out now.

Few big drops and a couple of rumbles, not even enough to dampen the concrete.

Nice rain curtain heading across to our N/E hopefully dampen down the Wandin fire.

Three rumbles and about 0.05mm. Path nearly wet.

Too high and too fast. Now waiting on the rain band to edge across.

Holy cr@p, one massive, cracking flang overhead. Scared the living daylights out of all of us! So loud!

Thought I heard one rumble but not sure, just spitting here, cells seem to decintigrate just as they approach Cranbourne,

Friendly Beaches on the East Coast of Tassie has reached 39.5 degrees. The highest temperature ever recorded ANYWHERE in Tasmania in December is 40.6 degrees.

EDIT: 39.8 is now the max reached for Friendly Beaches

The 'decent' cool change has settled in here with steady light rain, SW wind and temp back to 20 C.

Just got a brief heavy storm. Only 0.6mm but at least we've started for today. Event up to 2mm of rain (and about 20mm of evaporation ).

Radar is looking half decent, but cells are moving very fast.

Unfortunately, lots of fire started in the Yarra Ranges by the earlier storms. They really need this system to dump some rain now.
